Beyoncé inflicts unspeakable horrors on Dolly Parton’s ‘Jolene’
American Thinker ^ | 2 Apr, 2024 | Andrea Widburg

It is a truth universally acknowledged that all sane and decent people like, if not love, Dolly Parton. Another universal truth is that Dolly Parton’s “Jolene” is one of the greatest country songs ever written. But one of the truths of life in 2024 is that modern pop culture degrades everything it touches. Nothing more clearly illustrates that fact than Beyoncé’s aggressively “girl boss” version of Parton’s classic song. It’s a travesty and a metaphor for so much of the damage leftism has inflicted on the world.

The original Dolly Parton song sees Parton begging the breathtakingly beautiful Jolene to leave Dolly’s man alone. Dolly shares her utter despair as she sees the love of her life fall desperately in love with Jolene.

The worst thing of all, from Dolly’s perspective is that Jolene doesn’t even love the man Dolly loves so much. Instead, Jolene’s acts are from ego, not love: “Please don’t take him just because you can.”

Unspoken in the song is the fact that Dolly’s love is so deep and true (“I could never love again, He’s the only one for me”) that she might even sacrifice him for true love…but Jolene just offers a narcissistic simulacrum.

Thus, the core point of the song is that there are women so egotistical and narcissistic that they are incapable of love. Or rather, they are incapable of loving anybody but themselves. Naturally, this gets us straight to Beyoncé.

Normally, Beyoncé is associated with generic pop songs, and she’s very good at them. I don’t like her, but she’s won a bazillion Grammys, sells out stadiums, and has a devoted following. She’s also a very beautiful woman.

Having conquered the realm of pop, Beyoncé is now ready to conquer new worlds. Apparently, country music was just sitting there...

“Jolene” always struck me as having an American Indian flavor to it.

She tried to make a Dolly Parton song a hit like Whitney Houston did. Only, she’s not Whitney.

It might well be in a pentatonic scale.

"Beyoncé inflicts unspeakable horrors on Dolly Parton’s ‘Jolene’"

The English Language DOES NOT use acute accents, and the fact that her mother was able to bear live offspring DOES NOT entitle her to rewrite the conventions of the language. Everyone should just call her "Bouncie" and let her whine about it.

Amazing back story to the incomparable guitar playing on the original Jolene. Please take 8 minutes to enjoy Chip Lane.

All records of Parton singing this will be erased. Future generations will be taught that this is a black Beyonse song.

Beyoncé and liberals don’t have to worry about women getting their man because their men prefer men.

Sorry, but I think this take is really off base.

Dolly is one of the heroes of the music world, based on what she4 has done for those who grew up with similar deprivations to what she experienced in her family, investing heavily in books for early childhood, etc.

She also has been very gifted in her field and generous among other songwriters and performers.

Beyonce is talented, though not my cup of tea (especially politically). And her Destiny’s Child origins give her more than enough credibility for, with Dolly’s blessing, making Dolly’s favorite of her own songs Beyonce’s as well.

Country actually has been experiencing a resurgence, including up to where I am in the Northeast, that is notable. But that Beyonce can give it a boost in the R&B/pop world as well is no small thing.

Dolly’s hip to that and bless her for helping her genre to ride the lift with her. That Beyonce might have slightly reimagined the song is no capital crime.

I always wanted to know who Jolene was that she could make Dolly Parton nervous.

The singer isn’t in love with her man. She’s in love with herself and the emasculated slave who runs to her when she snaps her fingers. If this is a romance, there’s only one person involved.

Beyoncé is to country music as Meghan Markle is to…the royal family! Both reflect the horrible damage that leftism has done to women, regardless of race.

Nailed...

There was a black country trio Chapel Hart on America’s Got Talent, and they sang their version of Jolene with alterations, basically, you can have him Jolene. I really liked it.

I like Beyonce but, her rendition was mostly unremarkable and uninteresting.

If saying “ She sang fine” is an insult, it’s the best compliment I could come up with.

The whole album is an unfortunate and forgettable example of someone who can sing and hit the notes but, there was no attenuation of tone, a nominal texture and lacked emotion.

She made the album only because she can

I would have loved to hear about Jolene making a play for Loretta’s man. Wouldn’t have gone well for Jolene.
