I can’t disagree. The area affected by the New Madrid quake(s) has become more settled and developed since then.
It would be epically bad.

What I am concerned about, however, is eventually the New Madrid fault will erupt, and when it does untold devastation will occur. David Wilkerson predicted it, and though his dating was way off, I'm still convinced it will occur. It's not a matter of "if," but "when."
My word of advice for everyone, is not to let this become another kind of "Y2K" event. All panic, no disaster.
I have been saying for weeks now that one should expect some activity from the New Madrid within several weeks of the eclipse.
If one does some tracking of eclipses worldwide, there is a fair amount of anecdotal evidence to support the theory of a post-eclipse earthquake.
In fact, there was a bit of a small shake this past weekend in Ohio already. Steele, Missouri had a shake this morning at about 7:24am. This particular eclipse is going to have a good magnetic pull over the entire fault-line, so things could get interesting.
Y2K all over again. I worry more about having an idiot at EVERY control stick that matters in the FedGov.

I remember the end of world back in the early 80s when all 9 planets were in alignment. It was early in the morning when I went ouside to go to work and I looked up into a crystal clear rural North Carolina sky and all that were visible to the naked eye. It was beautiful. The Chicoms had been forecasting woe and destruction for months but nothing happened.

Going through three in three weeks would sure make you believe the world was ending.
We were living in Chesterfield, MO on Nov 9, 1968 (I was 17) when a big New Madrid quake hit. I was working in the garage and didn't know what was happening when Dad came running out of the house yelling "get out!" We ran to the back yard and watched things shake, then it was over. Then five years later, I decided I wanted more of that fun and moved to San Francisco.
