Poland’s top climate official said the country is preparing to set a date for a complete phase-out of coal-fired power generation, just months after the nation elected a new government that has pledged to support environmental policies of the European Union (EU). ... Poland, which currently receives about 70% of its electricity from burning coal, and has long been Europe’s largest producer of the fuel, has been slowly increasing its use of solar and wind power. ... Urszula Zielinska, the country’s Secretary of State for Climate, during a meeting in Brussels, Belgium on Jan. 15, said, “Only with an end date [for coal] we can plan and only with an end date industry can plan, people can plan. So yes, absolutely, we will be looking to set an end date.” Zielinska, who was appointed to her post last month, said officials are studying the country’s energy and climate strategies. She said any government actions would include support for workers and other industries that would be impacted by the move away from coal.

When "conservatives" win, they dither and put out olive branches, and do meaningless symbolic moves.
when the cold of winter comes... look for the masses to burn anything to stay warm... even the houses of their rulers.
Add to that the political science of leftist governments messing up everything they touch, and it's set to be a disaster.
Girl Boss. Fixing everything up real quick.
Set a “date”.
“By 2099 we plan on being coal burning free.”
Excellent!
The Polish coal miners and power plant operators can be set to the Ukrainian Front.

Jeez, Poland joins the policies of the EU which are DESIGNED to impoverish the people of Europe. Another nation is led into signing the EU suicide pact.
The target date an influential lobby group set is 2035.
“A Warsaw-based group on Jan. 11 said Poland needs to end coal-fired power generation by 2035. Forum Energii in a report said coal plants no longer will be economically viable by the middle of the next decade. Poland is home to Europe’s largest coal-fired power plant, the 5.1-GW Belchatow power station. Belchatow, located in Rogowiec, has more than a dozen units, including an 858-MW supercritical unit commissioned in 2012. “
Reminds me of the scene in Dr Zivago when he was breaking off pieces of a wooden fence to have something to burn in their stove.
Getting caught doing that would get you shot.
Urszula Zielinska, the country’s Secretary of State for Climate
Urszula Zielinska, the country’s Secretary of State for the ozone hole
Urszula Zielinska, the country’s Secretary of State for cow farts
Urszula Zielinska, the country’s Secretary of State for Stupidity.
That's ars backwards. They need to set a "start" date on experimenting with alternatives and gauging their effectiveness. Also, determining if present alternatives justify additional investment or alternately should they move on from impractical uneconomical methods.
Idiotic. Self inflicted turmoil. Look where it got Germany and USA. Meanwhile, China is building coal fired power plants.
They will freeze.
But it will be a carbon neutral kind of freezing, so it’s not as bad.
Is that not exactly the same what Biden has planned for the US?
For a country that has suffered so much during WWII it did not learn much from their misery.
If that’s what stupid people voted for, that’s what they get.
Question: In the recent election, did the socialists factions run on shutting down coal?
Everyone needs to watch Dr. Zivago to really understand how bad socialism is.
The Greens and the Left certainly did.
