ransomnote: There's more of Laura Logan's reporting on the lower half of the article which I found contained detail I hadn't read elsewhere. I excerpted part of her report here:

I found that there had to be three major safety violations for an event like this to happen.

The lesson was that when you had one major safety violation you should go on high alert.

Two major safety violations and you shut everything down because a third major safety violation is going to get people killed.

“ Less than a week ago, the US Coast Guard said they were investigating a series of HOAX DISTRESS CALLS that began February 17 near BALTIMORE.

“They said at least 16 hoax calls were transmitted and “consist of an individual calling out for help with no location or description of their vessel or nature of distress”

Her contention is that the ship’s navigation systems (perhaps propulsion?) were hacked. Now, we have a lot of people dismissing this as looney conspiracy theories yet there’s nobody commenting here who can rule that out, other than by relying upon the same-day statements of the Administration, FBI, media, tv experts… Personally, before reaching conclusions, I will wait and see (or not see). As for the commenters dismissing Lara Logan, you can feel free to believe Christopher Wray and this Administration. BTW, here we are two years after Nord Stream was blown up and the same crowd can’t tell us exactly what happened and who was behind it. But in this case, they were ready to rule out an attack within ten minutes. (Where have you gone James Kallastrom…?)

Best explanation so far:
I'm a marine engineer; here's my guess at what has happened.

When a ship leaves port there is a requirement to start stand-by generators for the duration of the voyage out.

But sometimes there are other issues, a switch board failure, or auto-control issue and you can lose the lot. it has happened to me a few times over the years. Everything goes off-line and the main engines shut down automatically because they have no feed pumps for fuel, lube oil and air.

The emergency generator will usually start - a small diesel housed on the upper deck usually behind the bridge. It gives enough power for the nav gear and some ventilation, and enough power to enable the engineers to get the rest of the gear back on-line.

That is probably driving the lights we see come back on but not as many as before. The engineers then go round the engine room and control room and manually switch all the gear back on. That can take some time.

But because of the emergency the engineers in this case would have to make a terrible decision to start the main engines immediately to go emergency full astern possibly without supporting pumps and almost certainly with some engine damage.

Black smoke is always a sign of incomplete combustion. the massive pumps that supply air to the engine room would be off-line and so the engines would be gasping for air. The fuel would burn but without enough air hence the black smoke. in full-astern mode the rudder would be used. -- There is a close up photo of the ship showing the port anchor was dropped.

The ship was leased. The ship’s charter company had no employees or contractors aboard. Nobody is saying who insured the ship or who the captain was. The insurer takes the financial cost. The captain and crew should not be able to leave the country. And we should know the name of the harbor pilots who were in charge of navigating the ship out of the harbor. Those are the important pieces of information and we don’t know any of them. We just know its a Singapore flag which means almost nothing. The captain and the harbor pilots are the people who would have to be involved if this was malfeasance or misfeasance.

Lara Logan offers nothing but her say so for her so called “multiple intel sources”.

But people will read it because conspiracy theories are the hottest selling “news” comodities these days.

Such a critical bridge should have had protection cells around the supports.
Without them, there should have been pilot boats (tugs) to steer every ship beyond the bridge.
This vessel was traveling too fast in the proximity of an unprotected structure.
Somebody’s heads should roll over poor procedures resulting in this incident. There, of course, will be no accountability.

Riiiiggghhhhttttt. And they knew EXACTLY how the ship would travel. A more plausible theory is God has had enough of the American BS, and is raining down judgments quicker than we can absorb them.

I'm with Ransom on this, and I know lots more info will come out.

For now, I remind folks of the mishap just over a year ago, same vicinity, in the Chesapeake, where a ship grounded.

BALTIMORE -- The pilot of the cargo ship Ever Forward, which ran around in the Chesapeake Bay last year, has given up his license, WJZ has learned.

The best strategic attacks are ones that show no signs of being an attack.

Or really busy bridges near really busy ports are the ones most likely to be involved in an accident with a boat.

The obvious "What if........" question the engineers are supposed to consider was not considered.

And you can't say they didn't have recent past history to use as an alibi either. Even the correction for such a problem was ignored.

With all we’ve seen in the last few years, anyone who uses the term “conspiracy theory” un-ironically is a damn fool.

The real conspiracy is that the ship was rammed into the bridge to cover up Pee Diddler’s PizzaGate investigation 😉
