Popular due to their effectiveness in fighting various bacterial infections, fluoroquinolone antibiotics carry risks that can be worse than the illness.
SNIP>>>>>>
Fluoroquinolones, including ciprofloxacin (Cipro), levofloxacin (Levaquin), and moxifloxacin (Avelox), are powerful antibiotics designed to battle various bacterial infections—from urinary tract and respiratory infections to dermatological conditions.
Fluoroquinolones are broadly effective and can reach deep into tissues to combat bacteria, which made them increasingly popular among doctors after their U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval in 1980. They also require fewer doses than some other antibiotics, making them convenient for patients to use.
Fluoroquinolones possess the ability to disrupt bacterial DNA replication and stop bacterial growth. “Fluoroquinolones are fluorinated antibiotics,” explains Dr. Mark Ghalili, a board-certified internal medicine specialist and founder of Regenerative Medicine LA. “This fluoride component allows the drugs to penetrate the central nervous system.”
Despite their widespread use, fluoroquinolones face increasing scrutiny for their side effects in virtually all bodily systems.
Those suffering from fluoroquinolone toxicity are colloquially known as having been “Floxed.” They experience a spectrum of debilitating conditions, including tendon ruptures and severe neurological and psychological effects, often leading to irreversible impairments.
Research indicates that fluoroquinolones double the risk of aortic aneurysm and aortic dissection, which are potentially lethal cardiac conditions. These antibiotics have also been associated with QT interval prolongation, a precursor to sudden cardiac death.

Something to be aware if one of these is prescribed for you.
Most of my extended family are, or are retired from, various medical professions. I hear all sorts of things.
One thing I’ve heard for long is that one must be careful of Cipro. Only take it for serious disease/infection, and only for as long as absolutly necessary.
Post operative infection prevention— the most justified use. But is being used as a hammer in respiratory infections that could be well handled by say a bacteriostatic agent— like Azithromycin, which was highly effective regimen augmenting the immune system fighting off pneumonic consequences of the coronaviruses- including covid.
Who's surprised? /s
Pharmacology of the fluoroquinolones: a perspective for the use in domestic animals
Yes, your medical family were right and this isn’t really new info. They haven’t used it much in children at all because their tendons, etc. are still growing. No patients are kept on it long term for recurrent infections such as bladder inf. anymore. In a some severe infections though, it is a lifesaver.
ping to you
Never caught that info— was interested in the nebulizing component dilution for dispersal in room air. thanks for the post. Pretty amazing stuff, just as the UV light insertion tube device for use in intubation of viral infected people .... was approved by the FDA (Trump was completely misquoted and stupidly created to be talking about bleach— he wasn’t he was talking about UV light. It works!)
Also, an after action fact of those years- the FDA took N-Acetyl Cysteine (NAC) off the shelf of GNC and other marketers because... they said... NAC is a proprietary component of nebulizer product called Brand name: MucoMyst.
NAC is a freaking amino acid variant. It is NOT proprietary— but FDA did this to continue to force the mRNA disaster on the populations it could force them on. Greed beyond any bounds ever seen before in govt/fascist pharma cooperation- Pfizer has not been able to maintain the level of margins seen then, since they no longer have near total subsidy for manufacture and distribution. Zero overhead.
Thanks again.
Unfortunately my wife is allergic to almost all antibiotics. Fluoroquinolones and sulfa drugs are about all she can take for infections of any sort. I’m pretty sure her doctor is aware of the dangers.
Birth is a terminal illness
Any sulfa drug will send him to the ER. Makes it fun when they have an infection huh? :)
I can take most antibiotics until recently. After shoulder surgery and months of PT I was feeling much better until I got a bronchial infection. I took Levaquin and in about three days my shoulder was aching like the dickens. Called the doctor and he told me to come in and said I had developed tendinitis and should stop taking the Levaquin immediately.
I had to go back into PT because of that. Ticked me off something serious. So now they are off my list.
This is good to know, but it doesn’t seem to be from any new information.
Sadly, this is just the norm for this class of antibiotics.
It is so important we stay as healthy as possible, such that we don’t have the problems an antibiotic of last resort can cause. Still, it’s better to have it than to die.
I have survived dozens of sinus infections, and I found Cipro to be worthless.
Amoxicillin works like a charm, and it’s cheap as dirt.
If we listened to all these alarmists with political and financial agendas, the only way to avoid death would be suicide. Literally, not even plain old water is good for us according to these ignorant nitwits.
I’ll have to keep that in mind if the orthopedist says I need rotator cuff surgery. I find out next month, the day after my wife has back surgery. I tell you, this getting old business isn’t for the fainthearted.
I had this happen while raking leaves after taking Cipro for a sinus infection. Ruined my shoulder. It took three years to stop hurting at all times, and periodically gets too painful to raise above my head for a period of weeks or months.
Thank you for weighing in.
NAC is broadly available again at Amazon and other sources. I take two capsules a day.
My wife, gone now, but just the opposite regarding sinus infections. Only fluoroquinolones worked.
I know— but it wasn’t for 2 years as the a@@hole FDA said it was a proprietary component. Commonly available- weight lifters use it as do people with respiratory function issues that can use help instead of guafenesin,
Thanks— there is plenty of NAC now, and Cysteine by itself if not. Just was an example of the FDA fronting for pharma and vaccine illogic and CASH machine. The FDA’s role many times has been to make the world safe for the “industry”. FDA approved is no longer the imprimatur it was when it had ethics. The current head is a crook, owned by Merck especially.
