If she was having an affair, seems like he gave a good example of why.
75 years ago catching a wife caught in flagrante was sufficient to avoid a charge of murder in most of the south and, I think, west. If the adultery wasn’t proven and the killer could convince the jury that he truly believed it happened, the killer might get a one year sentence or none at all. Wives seldom killed adulterous husband and if they did it was often poison and coroners “didn’t find” it or bashing in the head by a cast iron frying pan that was ruled an “accident.” If a woman went to trial she was more likely to get a real sentence than a man.

Sadly Olivia, they are the same person… you are young, and still able to be naive about people and the world. Every single person you will ever meet is capable of inexplicable cruelty in the right situation… I wish that was not true, but it is.
