U.S. lands unmanned Odysseus spacecraft on moon

An unmanned, robotic lunar lander launched by a private U.S. company landed on the moon Thursday evening.

“We can confirm, without a doubt, that our equipment is on the surface of the moon,” said Stephen Altemus, CEO of Intuitive Machines, the Houston-based company that operated the Odysseus spacecraft. “Welcome to the moon.”

As it approached the surface of the moon, Odysseus lost contact with NASA, resulting in several anxious minutes for those who worked on the joint project. But after approximately 15 minutes of searching, officials confirmed that they were once again receiving signals from the spacecraft.

“A commercial lander named Odysseus, powered by a company called Intuitive Machines, launched up on a Space X rocket, carrying a bounty of NASA scientific instruments and bearing the dream of a new adventure, a new adventure in science, innovation and American leadership, well, all of that aced the landing of a lifetime,” NASA Administrator Bill Nelson said after contact had been reestablished. “Today for the first time in more than a half century, the U.S. has returned to the moon.”

Altemus had estimated that Odysseus had an 80% chance of successfully landing on the moon, citing previous failed attempts as an advantage. “We’ve stood on the shoulders of everybody who’s tried before us,” Altemus said.

It was the first American mission to land on the moon since Apollo 17 in 1972 and the first private spacecraft ever to make a soft landing there.

While it was a private mission, NASA paid Intuitive Machines $118 million to deliver six instruments to the moon. And the U.S. space agency provided streaming video of the landing.

Here is the video of the Apollo 11 press conference.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BI_ZehPOMwI

Instead of giving high fives to each other and smiling and laughing about their “amazing accomplishment” they look like they were tortured and beaten before their appearance.

Don’t try to explain it or justify it.

Just watch it without judgement.

Listen carefully to every word they say.

All the clues are there—if you can just quietly listen and learn.

The truth is not free. You don’t get it delivered to you on a silver platter.

You have to earn it.

Go earn it.

Hint: Neil Armstrong in a later appearance called it “truth’s many layers”.

You need to learn that stuff for yourself.

I have given you plenty of data you can study.

I am not here to hold your hand.

That Mohamed Atta was some amateur pilot and Lee Harvey Oswald was some sharp-shooter, eh?

You were asked your age - which is not a personal attack.

Bullshit. You’re the one making the claim. I don’t have to prove you wrong - you first gotta prove you’re right.

So. All the lunar orbiter reconnaissance photographs are fake too? Yes or no.

India, and China landers were fake too? Yes or no.

We are discussing the Apollo program of the late 1960s and early 1970s.

Focus focus focus.

Listen to what Neil Armstrong said.

Listen again.

Listen again.

Eventually you will get it.

Oswald wasn’t a bad shot no. He was trained in the Marines. Are you sure you’re replying on the right page?

LOL

You just pivot around, and refuse to answer. Fail.

Let’s back up a bit.

Do you believe the Mercury and Gemini astronauts went i to orbit? Why or why not?

The Augustine Report that was released in October 2009.

The Review of United States Human Space Flight Plans Committee, better known as the HSF Committee, Augustine Commission, or Augustine Committee, was a group convened by NASA at the request of the Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP), to review the nation's human spaceflight plans to ensure "a vigorous and sustainable path to achieving its boldest aspirations in space." The review was announced by the OSTP on May 7, 2009. It covered human spaceflight options after the time NASA had planned to retire the Space Shuttle. A summary report was provided to the OSTP Director John Holdren, White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP), and NASA Administrator on September 8, 2009. The estimated cost associated with the review was expected to be US$3 million. The committee was scheduled to be active for 180 days; the report was released on October 22, 2009.

excerpt p.101

Radiation effects on humans:

Beyond the shielding influence of the Earth’s magnetic field and atmosphere, ionized atoms that have been accelerated to extremely high speeds in interstellar space fill the solar system. The effects of such galactic cosmic radiation on crews on long-duration space flight far from the Earth are a significant concern. Additionally, normal solar flare activity also occasionally releases radiation potentially injurious to humans.

On the Moon or on the surface of Mars, techniques are available to shield a human habitat from these sources of radiation, but the massive shielding is cost-prohibitive for a spacecraft.

These radiation effects are insufficiently understood and remain a major physiological and engineering uncertainty in any human exploration program beyond low-Earth orbit. A 2008 report by the National Research Council concluded, “Lack of knowledge about the biological effects of and responses to space radiation is the single most important factor limiting the prediction of radiation risk associated with human space exploration.” A robust research program in radiobiology is essential for human exploration. Research on these radiation effects on humans is limited on the ISS, since it is partly shielded by the Earth’s magnetic field.

It is clearly stated that, in 2009 the effects of space radiation - beyond low earth orbit - was unknown. So it couldn't have been known for any of the Apollo missions.

I was an 8th grader when I saw the last Apollo mission go up.

It was a night launch in December ‘72, we saw it from the banks of the Intracoastal Waterway, next to the bridge, in Ormond Beach.

Very cool.

I was a grade school NASA groupie from Gemini on, built models of the rockets, had a lunar globe and a telescope.

The Saturn V model was as tall as I was, with separate stages, the LEM module held the LEM and opened up like an alligator.

Everyone watched all the launches then and recoveries, we saw the Apollo 8 X-mas broadcasts live from lunar orbit when the crew read from Genesis.

Different era, different country.

Well we’re focused allright, just trying to drill down where your delusions begin, that’s all.

OK, so you DO recognize or believe that the Mercury and Gemini programs were authentic, and were not faked. Got it.

Put another way, you DO believe humans can reach earth orbit? Or no?

Is that your contention then, that the Saturn V wasn’t a hoax? Millions of people watched them take off from the cape. No problems with that part, right?

I answered your question—several times.

Mercury—legit

Gemini—legit

Apollo—8 and above—Nope.

Now that I answered your question—did you watch and listen to what Neil Armstrong had to say?

I hope you did.

You might want to listen to it a second and third time.

No, this is the first I’ve heard of where reality breaks down for you.

So - NASA could get to earth orbit, but spacecraft are unable to leave the earth’s sphere of influence?

When Mike Collins as CAPCOM made the famous call “Apollo 8 - you are GO for TLI” (trans lunar injection) that’s when the fraud began? Do I have that right?

That’s why they each carried radiation dosimeters, to record their exposure. While it is true shielding completely would be impossible or impractical, that doesn’t mean it will kill them. According to a transcript I heard, the medical people informed one of the flights they had received (at that point) the equivalent maximum daily radiation exposure of someone working in the nuclear industry. The Van Allen belt is not a place you want to hang around in, but it won’t kill you. In fact near as I can tell all of the flown Astronauts are pretty hardy stock and usually lived to a ripe old age. Jim Irwin was the first to pass, and from cancer iirc. Pete Conrad was killed in a motorcycle accident. But for the most part very healthy and sharp. Buzz Aldrin for example is still extant, and working on his 3rd wife.
