Scientists are sounding the alarm over the spread of “zombie deer disease” amid fears it may evolve to infect humans.
Late last year, experts confirmed Yellowstone National Park’s first case of the infection — officially known as chronic wasting disease — after a deer carcass found in the Wyoming area of the park tested positive for the highly contagious disease. Now, cases have been reported in deer, elk and moose in 33 states across the US, as well as in Canada, Norway and South Korea.
The disease “damages portions of the brain and typically causes progressive loss of body condition, behavioral changes, excessive salivation and death,” according to the New York State Department of Health. It is 100% fatal, and there are no treatments or vaccines.

There is a Hart, CA.
We know the world has a fever called Climutt Chainz. That’s why we have so many pandemics now, you know.
I don’t think prions mutate the same way viruses do. You have to have direct contact with them.
Obviously!
Ah. Thanks.
Do the hunters that they test have to be dead like the deer?
I live in a CWD area. Have eaten probably 40+ deer here since the first case in 2005.
My wife says I am trying to become the first human to get it, but that there is nothing in my head it could infect.
Fauci’s Friends are working on making it make that leap right now!
Supposed to be here, in PA & WV.
Never heard of anyone witnessing it..
“Prion based diseases are 100% fatal.”
Yes, the misfolded protein is simply incompatible with life.
And the instant Internet epidemiologists on this thread poo-pooing the threat miss the wonderful potential for this to become transmissible via aerosol.
OH DEER!!!
Uhh ... Just about anything "may evolve."
More scaremongering.
“... “damages portions of the brain and typically causes progressive loss of body condition, behavioral changes, excessive salivation and death,”
Sounds like the effect of public schools.
The prions are in the soil and even taken up by plants. Deer pass it through their saliva, grooming, feces, urine, food, scrapes. There isn’t anything like a gold standard scientific study on modes of transmission and percent of occurrence because it is a study impossible to do in a wildlife setting.
Game agencies set up rules trying to contain it just because they have to appear to be doing something. But they don’t have any true science that can be cited.
Word pn the street is that Doe is a Deer, a female Deer!
I would guess that the labs are working full time to make it happen.
Disease X eh?
So this is what they are working on now, I take it.
Yup, all it takes is two to make something plural.

Odd that something so small could be so destructive.
