I'd be OK with DeSantis (though it would take him away from being a proven conservative governor for an important state) or Ramaswamy. I would not be OK with Gabbard. I don't know enough about the others.

including Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis

This is Trump’s way of testing DeSantis. Look at the response.

The headline and article are B.S.

This is not "Trump's shortlist" for VP. It's a bunch of names given to him in an interview yesterday, and he said he'd consider them.

I concur with you. OTOH a MAGA VP candidate does not bring additional votes. It is all about winning elections. Losers of elections lose all power to change anything. So I will accept whoever Trump team decides will bring more votes from independents and even democrats. Only exception is I am dead set against Neocons of all stripes, since they are responsible for adding to the yuge fugly national debt, and loss of blood.

It would be a fun to watch debate between heels up and Gabbard.

Ron DeSantis is not going to be the choice. Neither is Mrs. Obama. When stories open with this gambit the article is trash. Ignorance abounds.

Can anyone here recognize this a head fake? Please ask yourself why Trump would lock himself in and anger and disappoint others.

There’s a dark horse that no one mentions.
Someone who Trump trusts, implicitly.
Who only has the People of the USA in mind.
A Wayyyy behind-the-scenes guy but a credible choice.
Credible...for Trump.

None of the above. Get a new list. Thought he would have learned his lesson from last time.

DeSantis needs to keep Florida safe. VR isn’t NBC and has major used car salesman vibes. Just no on Tulsi.

Trump votes in Florida so DeSantis is ineligible to be his running mate. There are a lot of good possibilities. I like Ramaswamy but he might not be best electorally. Gabard I think needs more experience though I like her. Kristy Noem would be a good choice too.

Trump will play for the “minorities” and “independents”= for the general election; hoping his GOP base of supporters now will understand you can’t change things if you don’t win.

His V.P, pick will be either a woman or a Black man.

This is not Trump’s short list. The headline is a lie.
These names were suggested to him and he politely said they were good people.

If he has a short list, he hasn’t made it public.
Even if he did mention some names, that would not in any way commit him, so we would be no closer to knowing who he’s actually going to pick.

President Trump’s current goal is to go into the convention as strong as possible. The stronger he is going into the convention, the more control he has over party platform, cabinet picks and campaign funding and strategy.

The way to show strength is:

1) win the delegates by a margin as overwhelming as possible
2) stay ahead in opinion polls
3) win key endorsements
4) do all of the above WTHOUT HAVING PICKED A RUNNING MATE.

Picking a running mate in order to broaden your appeal within your own party is a sign of weakness. And the only reason a candidate would pick a running mate early is to broaden your appeal - so that too is a sign of weakness.

For example, Reagan had won 60% of the delegates going into the convention, the rest mostly won by Bush. So, while Reagan had won by enough to secure the nomination, and Bush had conceded and endorsed Reagan, he was likely concerned that the 40% who didn’t vote for him in the primaries would not be as enthusiastic going into the general election. No doubt, this is why he felt he had to pick Bush as his running mate.

Perhaps if Reagan had won the primaries more convincingly, he would have been free to pick someone more aligned with his ideology (and less connected to the deep state).

President Trump wants to avoid having to broker deals - so he wants to show strength by winning closer to 90% of the delegates and by not having to form any coalitions to unite the party.

That’s why I doubt Trump will select a running mate until he has already secured the nomination. It’s also important to understand WHY he picks who he picks.

If he picks a RINO running mate it will be a show of weakness.
If he picks a MAGA running mate it will be a show of strength.

Trump will only pick someone who will turn on and eventually attack him. That’s the way Trump works.

I watched Tulsi respond to a question about abortion. It was like watching a snake twist around a tree branch. I would not vote for her.
