Around 1968, after a heart attack, my Dad was advised to do the same and he ate bananas.
Yes, same with me and also my dad. But then we were told to avoid TOO MUCH potassium. It is harder for the kidneys to filter. In moderation it’s not an issue but too much can spike in the blood and cause irregular heartbeats and other CV related issues.
For most people it’s not an issue - just get it from a regular good diet. Adding extra supplements, well, it may be good to lower blood pressure for some but for others it may exacerbate existing problems.
This is nothing new.
Losing weight and lowering carbs will lower BP.
Well, no. Celtic sea salt is still sodium chloride...not potassium chloride.
Like Himalayan salt, it has many other trace elements that are beneficial. And it does not contain iodine like iodized table salt.
Sea salt is still mostly sodium.
Potassium does lower blood pressure and also regulates blood sugar. Eat a banana.
Yes, I went on a keto diet for 120 days and my BP dropped and surprisingly so did my cholesterol levels. And my pant size.
Cut back salt consumption a little at a time and your taste will get used to it and you won't miss it.
It's not hard. You just have to do it.
The problem is, our convenience foods are loaded with salt and sugar to make up for the lack of real flavor they have because they are using substandard ingredients. Our taste buds have been corrupted and conditioned to expect the high salt taste.
Real food tastes good. Eat that instead.
When I travel to Europe, I marvel at how much better their food tastes than it does here.
Through all of human history they’ve consumed far more salt than we do today. Most people are walking around salt deficient. When you go in to the emergency room the first thing they do is get you started on a bag of IV saline solution. The paramedics often hang it on you right at the scene. No testing to see if your sodium level is high low whatever. Right away they put in a bag. That’s 9000 mg of sodium, four times the recommended daily allowance.
And sea salt is full of fish sh*t and pollution from sea Water
Although...it does contain almost three times the potassium than table salt. I swore off iodized table salt and switched to Himalayan salt some years ago and it had a huge effect on lowering my BP.
O think the key is replacing the mouth feel and taste of sodium chloride seasoned food with a healthier alternative.
I have found that vinegar products mimic the tang and bite of salt in foods.

No kidding. I can’t even eat Campbell’s Soup. Luckily my wife makes a mean batch of homemade soup.
That’s a story that begs for a sequel.

KCl is vilely bitter. I wouldn’t cook with it.
Indian food is a good low salt cuisine. Its flavor elements are acid, spice, heat. As opposed to Chinese which very simplified is salt/umami, ginger, garlic.
Cook with wine and you don’t need asmuch salt.
