With war expanding in the Middle East, Russia's invasion of Ukraine still raging and China threatening to invade Taiwan, the world has arguably not been closer to the brink of nuclear war in generations.
Researchers have begun sounding the alarm once again about the risks of a nuclear winter: picture an Earth hidden from the sun by as much as 165 million tons of soot and freezing 16 degrees Fahrenheit down from global mean temperatures.
All-out nuclear war could shrivel up harvests worldwide, reducing global calorie production by 90 percent according to agricultural and atmospheric scientists.
But an international team of researchers has found a briny, savory answer: vast seaweed farms, strung along the ocean's surface with ropes and buoys, could help save as much as 1.2 billion lives.

Yes kelp is nutritious. I believe dulse is better. The dried leaves are great in soup. Lots of minerals. We have gotten ours from this company. They have kelp, nori, dulse in different forms. For dulse we like the dried leaves and the powdered, great on salads.

The only thing I eat from the ocean is Bumble Bee Prime Cut White Tuna in Water, and that I make tuna melts with. I grew up in the 50's. We never ate seafood. Couldn't afford it, so I never had it. Tried a shrimp dish at a friend's house for the first time many years later, and got sick on it, so I never touched any seafood after that.
I grew up in the 50's. The old guy who lived across the street used to go fishing, and bring home perch, sunfish and bullheads, and would give some of each to my father. Sometimes he'd clean them, and cook them, but I never ate them. Most times, he'd just thank the old man, and then toss them in the garbage, because once he got home from running a railroad work crew all day, he didn't have the time, or energy to clean the fish while they were still fresh, and my mother wasn't going to do it. She didn't like fish either.

At first, it was made out of Kelp. After the oceans died, the government began to make it out of people. And just like these days, the government didn’t bother telling anyone.
Interesting. I also got very sick on my favorite popcorn shrimp from Red Lobster.
Ended up going to the hospital, got a shot and they sent me home. I was okay after that. Wouldn’t eat anything from the ocean for years.
Where we grew up, in the 50’s, we loved home cooked blue gills, as they were called in the North.
We use to fish in local fish tank for catfish where we are now.

Uni is one of life’s great pleasures when so fresh it is still alive when opened. The Japanese have that down to a art from.
There is a breed of sheep in Ireland that due to being cut off from their native pasture lands hundreds of years ago they live on and eat almost exclusively seaweeds along the Irish coast where they are trapped at. They evolved the thyroid functions to process the high levels of iodine in the native sea grasses and kelps. The meat from those animals is safe for ordinary humans to eat so it makes sense to take animals that can eat kelp and feed them that as feed and fodder. Eat the meat, wear the wool and drink the milk while having delicious cheese and butter as well. Kelp out grows any land plant by biomass volume at least five to one. It needs no fertiliser or water source or rain. All you need is open ocean that’s not to full of sediments which would choke off the sunlight at depth.
The best plant for biomass on dry land is agave it’s a C4 plant and doubles or triples what sugarcane or hybrid switch grass can put out per hectare the next closest two plants just in front of bamboo and kudzu. Kelp and macro seaweeds 5X agave they are not really comparable in yields per square meter of sunlight. Kelps approach 5% conversion of sunlight too biomass no land plant exceeds 1% fresh and brackish water plankton and algae get into the 2% ranges doubling vascular land plants. Duckweed is the top spot for vascular plant biomass per square meter and it floats in freshwater so technically not a land plant. The point is the earth is 75% ocean this planet should be called Oceania not earth viewed from space we are a water planet by a large margin. Farming the oceans is not only the next frontier it is absolutely critical when faced with ten billion humans by the end of the century.

Yummy stuff. But only in small amounts. I bought a small bag of dried kelp harvested in clean waters off Maine. Saw on a PBS special, bought on AMZ. $16, will last about two years. Put kelp and lemon juice on Alaskan Salmon Patties from Costco, Yum. And great, natural source of iodine. I don’t eat salt, not good for heart, and this little bag has an abundance of salt.
Fellow in photo has enough (salty) kelp in his hands to supply a city for a year. Would kill off thousands of “useless eaters”, high on the WEF agenda.
Don’t forget worms. PROTEIN, you know.

I saw the movie back then, but I missed or just forgot the kelp word.
Saw the original 1984 movie. I think it was redone because I the one I’ve seen since doesn’t seem te same. The first one was the real story. The rest is white-washing.

Red wigglers are 60% protein by weight twice that of beef. If you grind them up and mix them with a binder like oats or breadcrumbs and form meat paddies out of them they cook up nearly identical to hamburger in consistency and taste. Yes I personally have done this and served it to people without telling them what it was to get the honest response it was disclosed it was an alternative protein. This was in a controlled environment for an experiment. Only 2 of 20 found them objectionable with 12 of 20 found them so similar to beef they thought it was ground beef. A good portion of the global population eats alternative proteins, as in 75% or more. All of Asia, Africa and.Latin America does as do the Mediterranean basin countries to include France ,Spain and Italy. Worms,grubs,ants,grasshoppers,locusts are a regular part of the diet for most of humanity. Having been on 6 of 7 continents I have a life goal to kill and eat every protein that a human can safely eat thus making me the Apex of all predatory species. Worms are quiet tasty when cooked right same for grasshoppers.
Oh come on man. What about insects? Everyone knows that cockroaches can survive a nuclear blast and Biden learned about roaches and hairy legs man.
Presented by a British publication that wants and seems to think there can be a winner in a nuclear war it wants to start with Russia.
