A Montana mom and dad who lost custody of their daughter after they refused to transition her gender have told DailyMail.com the ordeal 'has torn their family apart.'

Krista Kolstad revealed the family's nightmare began when they received a call that their 14-year-old daughter Jennifer told friends at school that she wanted to commit suicide in August 2023.

Later that night, Child Protective Services (CPS) went to the Kolstad's home in Glasgow to inspect the house and interview Jennifer, later determining that she needed to transition to get better.

Krista, who is Jennifer's step mother, and the girl's biological father, Todd Kolstad, said Jennifer had a tough upbringing and several undiagnosed mental health concerns, including attention-seeking behavior and lying, which they believe caused the urge to transition and were overlooked by social services.

Krista told DailyMail.com: 'It's been horrible... Our family unit will never be the same. Even if they returned our daughter to us now, you're not going to have the same family unit... it's created a lot of animosity on Jennifer's part towards us, she doesn't believe she has to listen to us as her parents anymore.'

Mr Kolstad said: 'I love my daughter unconditionally, and only want her to refrain from making decisions until she has the maturity and life experiences to understand what the consequences are for her actions.

Mental health is dead. What they call mental health is actually a mental disease, and what is a disease they call health. It’s upside down and inside out.

It is absolutely absurd to believe that surgery can cure gender dysphoria.

It is like a person with Alien Limb syndrome will be cured of the delusion that their arm is not their arm can be cured by removing the arm attached to their body.

Such mental illnesses are notoriously difficult to treat but mutilation of the body is not the answer.

Ill bet her biological mother and he father had some huge fights when she was 4-7 years old.. those are the little girl bonding to and figuring out what a man/father is.. Very Very important that little girls that age have positive and supportive male role models. I cant stress it enough, Almost foolproof.. find a mentally ill woman as an adult and ask about her father/dad figure when she was small..

In this case, the father was strong and protective, and the birth mother was unself-controlled and abusive. She abandoned her children to him, and he eventually found this concerned and nurturing wife, who has been the chlld's mother figure for around 7 years. But the early damage was done, apparently by the mother, according to the other kids.

So yes, there probably were fights when she was 4-7 years old. But it sounds like, if this story is pretty accurate, that it was because of her dad trying to rescue his children from a disfunctional mother.

Sadly they do have a high rate of suicide whether they get surgery or not.

These people have a mental illness. Whether they get surgery or hormones as some sort of cure, they still have a mental condition.
