Is texting a curse?

Does texting erode language?

One lazy day, my dog ate my dictionary. He really did. When I got to him, he had gone up to chewing up to “P”. But I had no choice after that but to throw away that humongous word library. One, because it (the dictionary, not my dog!) just had to be euthanized and second, well, there was an online, updatable, therefore more useful version. But come to think of it, why do we need dictionaries?

Probably the worst invention of the late 90's and early 2000's.

I hate texting, I had a family problem with my natural brother, and he would only text, and I said to him the effer, can you listen to me on the phone.

You got my drift, I can't stand texts.

The land-line world worked.

The world today is broken.

smart phones have dramatically reduced our overall quality of life... for convenience, we’ve turned ourselves into OCD, dopamine junkies.

Glad I was a kid in the era of atari, bikes, yard baseball and no open faggotry.

Texting is a way to have a ‘conversation’ that is limited and can be easily halted if either of the participants chooses. An example would be a ‘conversation’ that turns to something one of them really doesn’t want to talk about. “Oh, I had to go answer the door...lost contact.....etc.”

We see yutes texting back and forth to each other in restaurants because they are incapable of having a conversation using a common language.

Speaking to other people and conveying your thought and wishes to each other in a common language is a LOST ART nowadays.

I am in my 60’s and have had 3 job offers from $150K and up to start , just to talk on the phone to Customers, because the College Graduates they hire CAN’T DO IT!!!

I own my own business so I wasn’t about to take the cut in pay, but I do feel for them and I know them well.

pretty frikkin sad

Big fingers and a tiny keyboard is a recipe for frustration. I avoid texting whenever possible.

I was very late getting a cell phone, and I still don’t know how to use many of the functions; but I kind of like it. I can text my husband something without bothering him with his phone ringing at his work; every call I care about is ID’d, and if one isn’t I just don’t answer it. I can call a taxi or AAA if I’m out and something goes wrong.

I preferred landlines for sound quality, and when answering machines came along, I thought that was brilliant (I’m old). But the cell phones, texting, etc., only ‘break’ your world if you don’t decide exactly how intrusive you will allow it all to be.

I do not answer texts immediately — usually there’s a three- to five-day turnaround. I figure if it’s important, I’ll get a call; if it’s not, I’ll get to it eventually.

They make little ‘stylus’ things for that; and even big button cell phones.

"The land-line world worked."

That was before phone scammers abused the system. I got rid of my landline phone last year, because all I ever got on it were spam calls, despite using Spectrum's call filter settings. I'd turned the ringer off years before because I got tired of hearing it ring when these morons called. Even now, with cell phones, I get spam calls, political ads, and fraudulent texts. I don't use my iPhone for anything but calls and the occasional text from CVS Caremark for my scripts, and doctor appointment reminders. I use Verizon's call filter, which has filtered out a lot of the crap. I have it set to only ring when someone in my Contact list calls, but some junk calls still get through, although the calls are silenced. All spam calls and texts are immediately blocked, and the only time I answer the phone is if it's someone who is in my contact list. The Federal Government's Do-Not-Call List has never worked properly, and is nothing but a joke.

So do I. I call them “wood peckers”. Peck, peck, peck...

Interesting. I’ve heard of such a device, but never tried it. It’s a little plastic stick with which you poke the microscopic keys?

I’m the opposite. I prefer texts over phone calls. I can choose when to respond. My daughter sends me video messages.

Yes. It would be nice if someone would make a phone case that has a place for it, but I haven’t found that yet.

I never answer texts. In fact, I have never in my life sent a text to anyone. When I was still working, I told everyone not to bother sending me texts, and if they did they were going to get a phone call or email back, but not a text.
