Eh, we'll see.
'the district attorney could get the grand jury to indict a ham sandwich if he wanted'
I hope they get him for it. Bottom line is he pointed a gun at another human being and pulled the trigger without verifying it was unloaded.

New Mexico statutes § 30-2-3:
Manslaughter is the unlawful killing of a human being without malice.
A. Voluntary manslaughter consists of manslaughter committed upon a sudden quarrel or in the heat of passion.
Whoever commits voluntary manslaughter is guilty of a third degree felony resulting in the death of a human being.
B. Involuntary manslaughter consists of manslaughter committed in the commission of an unlawful act not amounting to felony, or in the commission of a lawful act which might produce death in an unlawful manner or without due caution and circumspection.
Whoever commits involuntary manslaughter is guilty of a fourth degree felony.
Sounds about right to me. It wasn't a deliberate / depraved mind / in the commission of another felony (1st degree murder in NM), nor did he know (that's the word in the statute) his act carried a strong probability of causing her death (he rather thought otherwise) (2nd degree murder). And as noted above, it wasn't voluntary manslaughter.
I still wouldn't mind some sort of aggravating enhancement though.

The new info was that the day before he practiced and said "But I don't want to aim it at you". So the idea that this gun scene was new.
And he actually picked out this gun himself for the movie...AND...the movie is about a kid who accidently kills someone and is one the run. What are the chances??

Much of what I read at the time indicated he was bullying the armorer and preventing her doing her due diligence. Plus he owns the production company, he personally was producing and acting in this film, and clearly was micromanaging the production.
Seems to me there’s no one else to blame. Not to mention he’s LYING when he claims he never pulled the trigger.

If hes guilty, so is the armorer. The armorer had declared that gun safe and so did one other person before Alec had it. The armorer there on set sucked horribly and had safety issues on her last movie as well. She had no business being in charge of weapons on set.
And I think they are both guilty.

Balwin is extremely knowledgeable about guns.
In his actor’s marketing bio he used to list gun handling experience as part of the talent he brings with his acting.
Alec’s father had been shot on the rifle range as a Marine shooting instructor.
Here is an excerpt from Baldwin’s book on him, the Baldwin boys knew guns, so Alec chose what he wanted to do or not do in regard to safety.
” He coached football at the school. Led a cub scout troop. Coached Little League. And was coach of the Massapequa High School rifle team, which went to the New York State Public High School Athletic Association state riflery championship twice during his career. That honor was nearly always the reserve of upstate, and therefore more rural, schools. For a “downstate” school to win was considered impossible. My father’s team won both times.
Years later, doctors informed me that the inhalation of lead dust from working in an unventilated rifle range may have contributed significantly to his death. On Parris Island in 1945, a bullet would not kill him. But bullets eventually did, at the age of 55, from lymph cancer that spread through his body.”

He admitted killing her. He’s using a technicality when he says “I didn’t pull the trigger.” He did say that he pulled back the thumb cock and then let it drop. That has the exact same effect as pulling the trigger.

Baldwin is an arrogant, snobbish, bully, who thinks he’s elite. A leftist hack, who let his ego outweigh whatever bit of common sense he may have once had.
They should throw the book at him, as his carelessness caused someone to be killed.
Anyone handling firearms should know better.
