Living in the country means mice.

These Tomcat mouse traps baited with PB work great for me.

https://www.amazon.com/Tomcat-0361510-Mouse-Snap-Traps/dp/B01N4GVAP9/ref=sr_1_6?crid=2IAEBDWLS8LCL&keywords=tomcat%2Bmouse%2Btrap&qid=1705526224&sprefix=tomcat%2Bmouse%2Btrap%2Caps%2C88&sr=8-6&th=1

They're advertised as "disposible", but I've been reusing them for years. Stick em in the dishwasher if they're gross.

01% Bromethalin Active Bait Blocks, https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008RH5G34/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1

Bromethalin is not a constant-feed anticoagulant, but a neurotoxin, quick kill. Suggest maybe crush block in plastic bag dizzle a little warm peanut butter over it, and put in trap.

For rats:

J T Eaton 750 Top Gun All Weather Rodenticide Bait Block Bromethalin Neurological Bait with Stop-Feed Action and Bitrex, For Mice and Rats (Pail of 128) Visit the JT Eaton Store

EPA is planning on banning these over 1lb and without a bait station.

Pray and place wisely.

Fill the 5-gallon bucket halfway with water, and check in the morning. Enjoy!

But also diligemryl look for any holes inside and out larger than your little finger, and fill Smart Dispenser 12 oz. Pestblock Insulating Spray Foam Sealant

I have lived in a "low-income" city of approx. 20k ppl per sq. mile for 30 years. And I mean pray and place.

You need my little dog. She is a great mouser.
My experience... I had a pack rat that avoided everything. I put out the bait and it just stuffed it for later. I tried glue traps and it just ripped its fur out to escape. I put snap traps and it chewed its tail off to excape. That bastard destroyed thousands of dollars of my equipment eating wires and air tubing. SO... I took the plastic (silicone insulated wire) it liked and got an electric trap. First night I put it out that sucker got zapped. A few days later another one got in the shop and it too got zapped.

For mice... Snap traps work fine once or twice but if one sees it they all avoid it. Glue traps, as cruel as they are, work well for me and I just dispatch the mice with carbon dioxide from my welding tanks or I will smash it as quickly and humanely as possible. If you have many mice or need to get them in a garden greenhouse or chicken coup the bucket traps are pretty good. They are super easy to make but just in case you aren’t handy here is a link to a few that work well.

diligemryl is what I can type in a rush with stiff arthritic typo-fingers. Means “diligently.”

Real butter works much better than peanut butter, remember mice are mammals.

Cat. Not a cute fluffy Persian with breathing problems but an American short-hair.

We live in the country too in an older farm house and have two inside and two barn cats.

That is challenging.

I had one field mouse get into my house and I left him alone for about 3 months to learn about what damage he could cause and he sampled everything he could among the edibles, nibbling his little holes into every box and bag.

Finally, I ordered the mouse traps from Amazon, and within an hour or two of setting one at his hiding area, he was cleanly killed with a broken neck.

I am amazed at how they can rob traps like they do.

It's their job, it's what they do.

Your local animal shelter has wonderful cats you can adopt. Go get a big cat.

If you don’t want a cat in the house, get a big long-haired cat and keep it outside. Feed it every day to keep it around and if it gets cold, get a cat house to put outside.

I have an indoor cat and feed a beautiful feral cat, “Blackie,” every night. Long coat, beautiful boy. It got down to 9 below zero a few times and he’s still OK. My neighbor feeds him and bought a house for him too. No mouse would stand a chance with Blackie on patrol.

The sticky traps work well although you have to dispatch them outside after you catch them. I always delegate that little task to Mr. GG2. 😏
