I don’t mind plants talking to each other. But I am bothered when they stare at me with their googly eyes. Christopher Walken knows what I’m talking about here.

I’m having memories of Cleve Backster...

I’ve believed since childhood that trees do communicate with each other, root and branch touching root and branch; endless lines of communication.

David Attenborough has a new series called The Green Planet’ . If you can stomach the occasional droppings of Climate Change propaganda it mentions such things as planet communication. I suggest recording it then fast forwarding whenever that propaganda pill pops up.

I watched Fanfastic Fungi on Netflix, where they claimed that trees use the fungi network in the soil, under the trees, to send messages to each other. Calcium may be one of the messages, or a response to the message eg a response to a warning to fortify (calcify) itself.

Scientists film plants ‘talking’ to each other

Those scientists overheard Biden and Kamala talking to each other?

I wonder how a begonia says to his buddy, an African Violet, “hey, buddy, let’s go get a cold one and check out the broads.”

I won’t say that plants can’t communicate but in this experiment how did they conclude that the plants “smelled” something given off by the plants being attacked and not something given off by the caterpillars?

Along with beef, chicken and fish, they should ban slaughtering plants for food. They all feel pain.

Well, geez, anybody who (like me) has spent time in a greenhouse knows that plants put out chemical "signals" as a result of metabolism, changes in temperature and humidity, insect and human activities, etc. etc. Those signals go out through the air, through common water paths, through the ground, etc. And of course other plants may pick those "signals" up in the form of biochemical reactions.

But to characterize these chemical interactions as "communication" is a bit of a stretch; saying the plants are "talking" is just plain fantasy.

In the 1970's I took part in experiments that seemed to indicate that two "sibling" plants (same species, from the same parent plant) somehow were "connected", such that cutting leaves from one of the plants caused the other plant, a foot or two away, to react.

Of course, these observations were described as "Crying in pain" and "Sympathetic reaction" and so forth. Those of us doing the work thought it was all pretty overblown.
