Ex-Hertz Tesla Model 3s Cost as Little as $14,000. Would You Buy One?

Hertz is offloading used Tesla Model 3s from its fleet at a deep discount. They may be former rentals, but they're cheap enough that you have to ask yourself—would you buy one for $14,000?

Hertz initially ordered 100,000 cars from Tesla, but has since pushed back its EV adoption for a multitude of reasons. The company blamed high repair costs and recent price cuts on new Teslas for the decision in an earnings call reported by CNBC. It's possible that the arrival of the 2024 Model 3's "Highland" facelift may also have pushed Hertz to liquidate. In fact, Hertz is already offloading excess Teslas, sometimes for less than half what they cost new.

We have a week of serious winter weather coming this weekend here in Central Texas. Cold in the teens and below. Will be funny to notice if any Teslas are out and about. My F150 with a big V8 has remote start so when I get in the heater is warm and the electric seat warmers are nice and comfy! Plus a range of over 500 miles at 80mph, if I want to drive that fast. “Recharged” in less than 5 minutes. Fuel average is 17.8 mpg. Try that one tesla fans!!

That’s just being mean. Of course we all love you Janet, unless you’re really Karen.

I knew it was in there somewhere:

Accounting for the $4,000 federal tax credit available for used EVs, that takes the net cost down to $13,800.

Renting an EV car is very cheap. Just check the rates. Suppose it is okay if you are only driving it for few miles.

$14,000 is to much for a sparkler kit.

They won’t address the Elephant in the Living Room, which is that their customers DO NOT WANT THEM.

...and they could have found this out by having a trial run of 10,000, 1,000, or even 100 of them BEFORE ordering 100,000.

They’re looking at BILLION dollar plus losses - heads need to roll there.
