Hertz is offloading used Tesla Model 3s from its fleet at a deep discount. They may be former rentals, but they're cheap enough that you have to ask yourself—would you buy one for $14,000?
Hertz initially ordered 100,000 cars from Tesla, but has since pushed back its EV adoption for a multitude of reasons. The company blamed high repair costs and recent price cuts on new Teslas for the decision in an earnings call reported by CNBC. It's possible that the arrival of the 2024 Model 3's "Highland" facelift may also have pushed Hertz to liquidate. In fact, Hertz is already offloading excess Teslas, sometimes for less than half what they cost new.

Ditto that!!!
Do you want to buy a half dead battery?
They don’t like you Janet
I worked in the rental equipment industry.
You dump liabilities.
Don’t buy a liability.
I heard that parts for Teslas are a challenge $ and availability.
> I’d buy it. Then I’d take the battery out and sell it for $20,000 and then sell the rest of the car to a junkyard.
Could be a good play to part them out, but I think the maintenance has all got to be done through Tesla.
I’d want a guarantee on the battery. 20k miles or full replacement cost. And the contract will be iron clad.
Hertz sad they are unloading a quarter of their EV fleet and replacing with gas cars.
That’s a great point. What is the scrap/parts value of a Tesla 3 ?
If they installed free chargers at work I’d do it. I doubt the batteries are dead. I doubt they got rented much. My neighbor loves his Tesla but is very displeased with his solar power wall.
“Bloomberg”
Perhaps their ‘no quote’ policy is being matched by a ‘no link revenue’ policy.
Mike needs to learn that ‘fair use’ has a benefit.
Buy two. One to drive and one for parts.
No
My ex-wife bought one brand new and the range is only 250 miles. For me, I will stick gas powered or hybrid.
I leased a Prius and loved it. I wouldn’t mind getting another Prius because those cars do add value for fuel economy.
I wouldn’t get one if they paid me.
“my thread was nuked...”
The Washington Post hopefully is learning that some revenue is better than no revenue from my eyes.
I don’t bother trying to access the Post or Financial Times anymore.
The mass media should try to work with Internet Service Providers to offer subscription riders. I’m not going to pay $6.25/week to read the NY Times. An ISP might offer a pick of any five of its lineup for say $10/month, with the first pick getting say $3/month and the last of the five $1/month.
well, if I needed a second/commuter vehicle... then I would consider this vehicle vs others I would consider for it.. however I doubt highly I would wind up picking an EV once I evaluated everything.
Cost of ownership is just too much, and if 1 single batter cell fails, and you take it to TESLA for repair they are going to want to replace the entire battery pack, not diagnose an replace the single bad cell, which is a FORTUNE.
Reliability on these is generally far lower than ICE, and repairs more expensive so... while I haven’t done detailed math, even if I did just want a secondary/commuter vehcile... after all the analysis is done, even if I was going to spend 14k on one, I would still likely buy a used ICE vehicle.
What kind of range was it getting per charge?
Nope. I will stick with my gasoline-powered car.
hilarious that hertz blamed everything but the fact that virtually no one wants to rent one ...
