Where Was the Israeli Military?

Far beneath the Israeli military headquarters in Tel Aviv, in a bunker known as The Pit, commanders were trying to make sense of reports of Hamas rocket fire in southern Israel early on the morning of Oct. 7, when the call came in.

It was a commander from the division that oversees military operations along the border with Gaza. Their base was under attack. The commander could not describe the scope of the attack or provide more details, according to a military official with knowledge of the call. But he asked that all available reinforcements be sent.

At 7:43 a.m., more than an hour after the rocket assault began and thousands of Hamas fighters stormed into Israel, The Pit issued its first deployment instructions of the day. It ordered all emergency forces to head south, along with all available units that could do so quickly.

But the nation’s military leaders did not yet recognize that an invasion of Israel was already well underway.

Hours later, desperate Israeli citizens were still fending for themselves and calling for help. Roughly 1,200 people died as the Middle East’s most advanced military failed in its essential mission: protecting Israeli lives.

The full reasons behind the military’s slow response may take months to understand. The government has promised an inquiry. But a New York Times investigation found that Israel’s military was undermanned, out of position and so poorly organized that soldiers communicated in impromptu WhatsApp groups and relied on social media posts for targeting information. Commandos rushed into battle armed only for brief combat. Helicopter pilots were ordered to look to news reports and Telegram channels to choose targets.

And perhaps most damning: The Israel Defense Forces did not even have a plan to respond to a large-scale Hamas attack on Israeli soil,

Too many folks may have lost their own personal sense of right and wrong let their resentments and hatreds of Benjamin Netanyahu get the best of them.

Many stories published since 10/7 some women acting as spotters claiming the male officer’s superior to them weren’t listening to their concerns.

If so, why did they dismiss what the troops out there were seeing?

“How Hamas was able to smuggle thousands of missiles inside their secured walls.”

They make the missiles themselves I believe.

The Israeli villages were a few miles from Gaza - a quick ride by motorbike.

Asking the IDF to keep people living near jihadists safe is like depending on police to keep you safe.

People need their own means of self-defense. Bad people can bust in your door before the police can put down a donut. Police are a deterrent, but not a preventative.

The Israelis could put sensors by the roads near their borders.

Any large metal thing moving could be detected and an image of it place on an Israeli screen.

the Israeli intel and security chiefs Haliva and Bar have taken responsibility for breakdown. over the last few years under Lapid Bennett the IDF was downsized, apparently not to good effect. the inquiry should be interesting.

But it's also abundantly clear that the IDF and the intel leaders failed miserably (like 9/11)

FULL STOP

I disagree vehemently with the assertion that our IC 'failed'.

You need to watch this:

No, no, no! All the best conspiracy theorists on FR (see below) are sure Bibi Netanyahu knew about the attacks in advance and let them happen, killing 1,200 of his own citizens because he could then attack Hamas in Gaza. He’s just sneaky and shifty that way:

“Seems like the whole invasion was allowed so Israel could clear out Gaza.”

“So israel government somehow misses all the warning signs that thousand terrorists are about to cross their border, although Egypt warned them. But it all works out for them in the end, other western countries will take their wonderful Palestinians for them.”

“the Israeli military knew and sacrificing 1200 Israelis to end Hamas once and for all was worth the risk.”

Do you have any evidence they chose to sacrifice their own citizens, or did you just make that up?

“I bet they knew”

Do you have any evidence that Netanyahu knew the attack was coming and allowed it to be unopposed?

“Like USA, a lot of traitors within the Israeli government, possibly to the very top.”

I look forward to any evidence you may have to back up this explosive charge.

I'm not surprised that the same LAAP-dog media that covered up for Bill Clinton's "wall of separation" between US intel agencies to keep them from discovering his foreign campaign finance abuses that led to their blindness to 9/11 is now blaming Netanyahu for missing the signs for October 7.

Netanyahu has been relentlessly distracted by his own DoJ that lawfared him out of office, that continued after the Israeli people voted him back in.

So -

Over 1,200 Israelis were brutally raped, tortured, and murdered and the IDF was asleep in their bunks, their command center unable to communicate with anyone, and the only roads in were blocked and the stalwart rescue troops stopped when they hit roadblocks - and you’re saying it was somebody else’s fault?

You should be putting whoever couldn’t see this coming/ignored the intercepts up against a wall, not blaming us.

They either knew or didn’t know what Hamas was planning. Yes, I made it up, only because in my lifetime, I never knew Israel to miss anything when it comes to national security.
