New medical research suggests that owning a cat could double the risk of developing schizophrenia.
To reach that conclusion, scientists in Australia analyzed 17 studies published over the last 44 years from 11 different countries, including the US and the UK.
“Our findings support an association between cat exposure and an increased risk of broadly defined schizophrenia-related disorders,” the authors wrote in their analysis, published in the journal Schizophrenia Bulletin.
“We found that individuals exposed to cats had approximately twice the odds of developing schizophrenia,” wrote the research team from the Queensland Centre for Mental Health Research.
Schizophrenia is a complex mental illness that often runs in families, according to Johns Hopkins Medicine.

LOL. So amI.
I don’t know about schizophrenic, but my cat DaisyJane is a true nutcase, Vet told me she would be when I took her in at 8 weeks old to get whatever shot she might need. “Very smart and very fierce.” And she was born on my birthday, so that a could account for “so am I”.

Study the owners. Cat-xhit crazy.

False connection. A rooster crows and the sun then rises therefore the crowing rooster CAUSES the sun to rise. The Latin term is, "Post hoc, ergo propter hoc."
A formal fallacy.

It’s why they use cat meat as an ingredient in Chinese-American food.

Also anxiety disorders.
Toxoplasmosis is ignored. Should be treated in both animals and humans

This sounds like another case of researchers looking for something to do. And is it that cats make people schizophrenic, or are schizophrenics attracted to cats?
Ah, who cares? My house cat has a calming effect on me. I’d be less sane without her.

Keep them outside and there is no litter box to clean, and fewer rats around the farm.

...broadly defined schizophrenia-related disorders...Hmmmm, that's an interestingly broad category.
Wonder if this is really about cats and toxo...

I wonder if they ruled out pot use in their study group...
Was driving down a road in town here in Florida the other day and the stink from all the pot being smoked was quite noticeable. And no, it wasn’t a dead skunk... skunk smells better.
Going into stores these days, it is hard to avoid the stench since they carry it with them in the clothes.
