By all accounts, McDonald’s is doing just fine. The fast food behemoth’s sales have been great, with price increases adding to its bottom line. But McDonald’s is also... McDonald’s. It’s just there. Aside from some collaborations with celebrities and the occasional introduction of a new sandwich or sauce, it mostly serves as the unchanging standard against which all other fast food is measured. But the company is launching a new concept, seemingly aimed at capturing a younger, and more mobile, market.
Enter CosMc’s. Although McDonald’s hasn’t officially announced anything, locals have spotted a location of the new “small format” (aka small-to-no dining room) chain getting ready to open in Bolingbrook, Illinois. Eater has reached out to McDonald’s for more information.
The new concept was first announced on the company’s earnings call in July, with CEO Chris Kempczinski saying it will have “all the DNA of McDonald’s but its own unique personality.” The chain is named after CosMc, an orange alien character introduced to the McDonaldland universe in 1987, who attempts to take a cheeseburger picnic back to his home planet before being convinced by Ronald McDonald that sharing is better. He would also go on to be a character in the videogame M.C. Kids, a very obvious Super Mario knockoff.

I guess they are following Starbuck's model of a Latte on every corner.
Mcd’s fries get my heart rate going like a double caffeinated coffee shot! Dont eat anything from there anymore…
Jar Jar...
OMG Lucas was inspired for Jar Jar from McDonalds. Now we know.
The food is served from out of the robots ass, the drinks come out of it’s dick.
if they open 24/7 and having no seating area. that is going to give them a LOT of options for placement and very little trouble in a lot of areas.
Decrease staff, foot print and overhead.
next step 100% automated and NO staff.
“Small format” meaning no dining room or public restrooms. Where are junkies going to go to shoot up?
So just overpriced awful food. And to think half of McDonald's customers only go there to use their bathroom.
I do enjoy a Big Mac Salad -— made at home. Lots cheaper at home than at the window for $20, made by dirty hands and a bonus of a few coughs.
and the free wifi
Needed for te generation that doesn’t know how to cook. They’ll be high so taste won’t matter.
Hmm, looks like they should’ve named the place McSugars.
In the rare instance when I get a burger and fries from McDonalds, I skip their nasty drinks!
Phooey to their new “concept”! It sounds like it is for GenZ!
When they changed the "oil" they fry them in, they taste like cardboard to me. I only like their breakfast sandwiches...sausage, biscuit, egg and cheese specifically, and once they stopped their all-day breakfast during the lockdown, I stopped going to them completely. I've been retired for 20 years, and unless I have an early morning doctor's appt., which is practically never, I don't go there.
Cal minimum wage $20 going up to 25. McDonalds 1/4 lb burger, fries, drink tax 15
With us it was Burger King’s burgers, but McDonnells’ fries. They had the best fries, back in the day.
Yes, if I recall correctly, they used to use beef tallow to fry them in, and stopped using it to accommodate the muzzies.
I “discovered” the Jimmy Dean breakfast sandwich a few years ago at Walmart in the freezer aisle, and haven’t had a McDonalds breakfast since then. Besides the price, not having to put on shoes and drive someplace is a big plus.
