Explanation: Jupiter looks sharp in these two rooftop telescope images. Both were captured on November 17 from Singapore, planet Earth, about two weeks after Jupiter's 2023 opposition. Climbing high in midnight skies the giant planet was a mere 33.4 light-minutes from Singapore. That's about 4 astronomical units away. Jupiter's planet girdling dark belts and light zones are visible in remarkable detail, along with the giant world's whitish oval vortices. Its signature Great Red Spot is still prominent in the south. Jupiter rotates rapidly on its axis once every 10 hours. So, based on video frames taken only 15 minutes apart, these images form a stereo pair. Look at the center of the pair and cross your eyes until the separate images come together to see the Solar System's ruling gas giant in 3D.
For more detail go to the link and click on the image for a high definition image. You can then move the magnifying glass cursor then click to zoom in and click again to zoom out. When zoomed in you can scan by moving the side bars on the bottom and right side of the image.
The really creepy part is when the eye of Jupiter blinks...
Why is the Great Red Spot shrinking?
Preparation H?
Some LGBTQ thing at NASA trying to be cute.
Last time I tried scoping Jupiter, it was too bright to see any detail.
Saturn I could do.
It’s hard in the astrophysics community. They create an aura of vast knowledge as if they have figured everything out. They have guys like Tyson who treat everyone who doubts their theories as if they are all contemptible morons. Yet they can’t find dark matter. Can’t explain why Uranus’s pole is oriented toward the sun, can’t explain where the moon came from, can’t explain how gases could ever collapse gravitationally in a vacuum to form stats and can’t explain why Jupiter’s red spot is shrinking. And can’t resolve the things the Jake Webb scope is seeing at distance. I don’t mind that they can’t explain things. It’s just their arrogance is beyond irritating.
What scope do you have? A moon filter would help.
Vortex Razor 20-80 spotting scope.
Yeah. I'm not falling for THAT one again! ;)
20-60 85mm
Stars, not stats.
If you do some searching you might find a filter that would fit. You just want something that cuts down the light. Some smoked glass might do.
