A woman has revealed her husband walked off, leaving her to deal with the fallout, after she accidentally ordered a cocktail that had a price tag of over two thousand dollars.

Lynsey took to social media to reveal she, her husband and her sister had been staying at a five-star hotel in London for New Year’s Eve.

She and her husband went down to the hotel bar for a drink, and she ordered a cocktail that featured Cristal champagne, with sprinkled gold leaf and a 30-year-old whisky.

The cocktail had a price tag of £1890, which is roughly $2,356 once converted.

She was then handed the bill, and was left speechless after initially believing the cocktail had cost $23.56.

Agree. I’m sure they would warn you. Not many people would order that drink. The last time I stayed in a 5 star hotel was in Vienna. A scotch and water was $40. I thought that was outrageous.

How does a bar charge an insane price like that before confirming it with the patron before making the drink?

I wouldn’t be surprised if this was just a publicity stunt for the bar.

Do you really think it’s the bartender’s job to convince people not to order a certain drink? Caveat emptor.

Nope, but I do think it's the bartender's job to warn them when something is way more expensive than would reasonably be expected. A good bartender will say, "I just want to let you know that that costs over $2k. Is that okay?" Caveat emptor applies to the quality or suitability of goods purchased once a price has been agreed. This was not that.

“That said, if a bartender does not warn a patron about something like this beforehand, the patron should not be held responsible.”

It is not the bartender’s fault the the patron does not have the education to determine the meaning of a decimal point.

Many of the 5 star hotels in London are $1,000 per night on a regular night without the high demand surcharge for New Year’s Eve.

The bartender got fired.

She did not have to pay.

I would have thought $23.56 to be ridiculously high.

Reminds me of a scene in “Better Call Saul”.

I’d leave her for ordering a whiskey drink when she doesn’t like whiskey! Having said that, “If it’s on the internet, it must be true.” lol

In this case gold flakes and 30 year old single malt. Along with a 5 star hotel guest rubbing elbows with high dollar continental and middle eastern guests...

So... you are suggesting the bartender must pucker up and try not to offend the elites when advising them that the drink is expensive... thereby risking his job should a guest suffer indignities by the hired help breaking decorum?

I don’t see caveat venditor happening either, the card is charged and bearer of the cost is the dummy who ordered.

My nerves were absolutely wrecked – if they asked me to pay for this cocktail, which I didn’t even enjoy because it was whisky based and I don’t like whisky – so I avoided the bar like the plague,” she said.

So I did a selfie video and told the world about it on TikTok.

“”Internet is filled with these dramatic made up click-baits.””

Many years ago I clicked on a link about Clint Eastwood. It had an image of him, and the tease stated something that made you think he had passed away, was ill, etc. Since then I have noticed, but not clicked, on so many similar scams. If you right-click on the link, sometimes you can see the link address.

When in doubt, just never click on the link. If the story is true, there will be plenty of reputable versions eventually.

“Caveat venditor.” LOL. Freerepublic should have a rule against posting while drunk. A rule against posting while ignorant would improve things around here a lot also.

LOL!

Ol’ Megs is nuttier than squirrel poop.

Prince William had a duty, as an older brother, to warn Harry that he was about to screw up big time. Maybe Harry wasn’t listening. Maybe Harry was thinking with the little head. I don’t know. But she’s for sure crazy.

The bit about “Tiffany” is a reference to “The Universal Hot/Crazy Matrix”.
