Google developer nixes plan to build 15K homes in San Francisco Bay Area over ‘market conditions’

The developer set to convert the area surrounding Google’s San Francisco headquarters into a 15,000-house residential campus complete with office space and hotels has backed out of the project, citing “current market conditions.”

Google, however, has confirmed to The Post that it will proceed with the project — which shouldn’t be delayed despite the company’s tie-up with the developer, Lendlease — and said it’s looking to broaden its relationships with other developers.

Lendlease issued a press release on Friday saying it decided won’t move forward with the tech behemoth’s so-called “San Francisco Bay Project” after “a determination by both organizations that the existing agreements are no longer mutually beneficial given current market conditions.”

Google’s HQ is in Mountain View about 40 miles south of SF.
Still property is very high in a market where engineers are leaving the bay area.

The developer “LendLease” walked out. Google will build it in its own.

Nothing inconsistent.

A couple years ago, Google bought a shopping center in Mountain View for this project not about three miles from us. They evicted all the tenants (Best Buy, REI, Bed Bath and Beyond). It’s still sitting vacant.

You beat me to it. The South Park episode about Amazon where they play that song is a classic and spot on. Everyone works at Amazon and goes home to order online from Amazon.

The developer set to convert the area surrounding Google’s San Francisco headquarters into a 15,000-house residential campus complete with office space and hotels has backed out of the project, citing “current market conditions.”

But Google supports the things that have made the "current market conditions" less favorable for such a project.
