Nov. 6 (UPI) -- Firefighters and divers responded to a boat ramp in Florida where an SUV attempting to lower a boat into the water ended up submerged.

The Naples Fire-Rescue Department said in a Facebook post that firefighters and dive team members responded to a report of "a vehicle submerged in water at the boat ramp."

The department said all of the occupants of the vehicle were able to safely evacuate before it went underwater.

"The driver of the vehicle was putting their boat in the water when the vehicle slid down the ramp and into the water," the post said. "Rescue divers were deployed to recover the vehicle and the trailer, which was fully submerged."

The vehicle was recovered with assistance from a tow truck, the department said.

I couldn’t pull out my boat on a steep ramp at low tide in two wheel drive. They are very slippery. Thank goodness I had 4 wheel and it got me out.

Good thing he had the wiper blades running or that could have been a real disaster.

Seriously, though. That’s a real bummer.

My wife nags, “Is it in Park? Is the brake on?”

And I don’t even have a boat.

"The driver of the vehicle was putting their boat in the water when the vehicle slid down the ramp and into the water," the post said. "

I've never heard that happening before. Was the boat too large for the vehicle? Or was the boat ramp too steep?

Saw that happen once. Guy said he just bought the truck yesterday. Brake not set and when his passengers got in the truck it rolled down the ramp.

At the boat ramp on one of the lakes that I grew up near, there was a 12,000 lbs wench mounted across the street for exactly this. 100 ft steel cable would unwind to about 25 feet into the water. Saw more than one boat/car combo that was hoisted out.

I saw a guy launching his boat at Lake Houston do this.
It was late in the afternoon. The boat ramp was wet. He had a custom van and a nice boat with the same paint job. He had a spinny knob in his steering wheel. He was backing up way to fast and when he hit the brakes the van slid down the ramp to the point that there was water in the floor of the front of the van. Fun to watch.

Wish I had a dollar for each time I saw that type of thing happen between 1972 and 2018...

Heck, almost happened to me launching the bass boat, on the morning before a tournament on Smith Mountain Lake, while it was snowing...

I refuse to use my boat on holidays, or holiday weekends. Used to have a trailered boat. The boat ramp is mayhem.

On those holidays, a buddy and I would go to the boat ramp with a cooler of beers and food, just to watch the disasters..

And we laughed and laughed and laughed and...
