Grok is an AI modeled after the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, so intended to answer almost anything and, far harder, even suggest what questions to ask!
Grok is designed to answer questions with a bit of wit and has a rebellious streak, so please don’t use it if you hate humor!
A unique and fundamental advantage of Grok is that it has real-time knowledge of the world via the 𝕏 platform. It will also answer spicy questions that are rejected by most other AI systems.
Grok is still a very early beta product – the best we could do with 2 months of training – so expect it to improve rapidly with each passing week with your help.
Thank you, the xAI Team
Why we are building Grok At xAI, we want to create AI tools that assist humanity in its quest for understanding and knowledge.
By creating and improving Grok, we aim to:
Gather feedback and ensure we are building AI tools that maximally benefit all of humanity. We believe that it is important to design AI tools that are useful to people of all backgrounds and political views. We also want empower our users with our AI tools, subject to the law. Our goal with Grok is to explore and demonstrate this approach in public. Empower research and innovation: We want Grok to serve as a powerful research assistant for anyone, helping them to quickly access relevant information, process data, and come up with new ideas. Our ultimate goal is for our AI tools to assist in the pursuit of understanding.
. . .
Early Access to Grok We are offering a limited number of users in the United States to try out our Grok prototype and provide valuable feedback that will help us improve its capabilities before a wider release. You can join the Grok waitlist here. This release just represents the first step for xAI. Looking ahead, we have an exciting roadmap and will be rolling out new capabilities and features in the coming months.
I would expect that most people will either not care where the term grok came from, or they will have to look it up.
Swell…so all of CBS, NBC, ABC, CNN, NPR and MSLSD’s lies get mainlined into the LLM’s responses. Pass.
Certainly that was a description of Twitter - but under Musk, I take it that X is a whole different animal. Musk had already turned off access of X database to prior AI s, so Grok is up-to-the-minute and all prior AI s are stale.Community Notes feature is a crowd-sourced hack at AI, I’d say. Scott Adams is hopeful that Grok will kind of automate Community Notes by both critiquing any given argument as well as steelmanning it. Sounds right to me.
. . . and Grok will, Musk implies, stop being beta by April of the upcoming election year. Imagine if Grok can get traction among blacks . . . say, getting half of them reading Thomas Sowell.
Pulled that from memory. Thank you for giving clarification
42, yeah, that’s the answer
Need to add an “n” to get there.
I grok it......................
...funny...took a minute to pick up what you put down.
Good laugh
Coffee is slow in its effect today.
And, Grok will be native on all Tesla cars
Heinlein.
42 is the wrong book.
There is a ‘newer, longer ‘ version the Heinlein originally submitted to the publishers, but they rejected it because it was too long, for the times. (This was before the voluminous ‘DUNE’ hit the market.)
The longer version was published after Heinlein’s death...........

Grok did not originate in HG… no matter how much Elon likes it. Grok is from Stranger in a Strange Land by Robert Heinlein.
I care. It was wrong to attribute it to an inferior book. Stranger in a Strange Land was revolutionary and deserves respect.
Gronk
Oops. I guess I ended up conflating two different things Musk is quoted as having said . . .
Intersting
Oh...you said "Grok"...never mind.
You don’t comprehend what the Musk disruptor team did.
They merged the concepts of the Hitch Hikers guide with the Stranger in a Strange Land.
The result is an AI system that can answer all with through understanding.
If you carry the Grok you will have an understanding of all in your hand regardless of where you happen to be in the galaxy.
The Freeper propensity to insist on either or can’t grasp and which is actually both
