A grandmother from New Mexico was shot dead by a Los Cruces police officer who fired upon her as she attempted to speed away in her car, shocking newly-released footage shows.
Teresa Gomez, 45, was killed by officer Felipe Hernandez, an eight year veteran with the force in the early hours of the morning on October 3rd, just before 5am.
The cop had been speaking with Gomez who had parked her car at a housing complex with her friend, identified as Julio Garcia.
Hernandez seemingly recognized Garcia from other encounters and appeared to be aware that had been previously was barred from the premises. He began accusing him of trespass and violating a judge's order.
In nine minutes of bodycam footage, Gomez can then be heard being addressed by the officer as he tried to establish her reason for being at the housing complex.
Throughout the interaction the officer can be heard using aggressive language, including profanities, and threatens to 'tase' her and make her life 'a living hell' if she didn't comply with his investigation.
Gomez explained that she was searching for her lost car keys and noted how she was looking for someone at the location.
The officer began to question their presence outside the public housing complex, claiming her passenger was not supposed to be there.

Yep, if they have children young it can happen.
James Alexander Gordon born in Scotland, graduated from Cardiff University.
Cops already have too much power.
find a better way.
my wife was 42

Remove qualified immunity are force police to be bonded/insured. That will make a third party decide if officers are insurable enough to deal with citizens. I am tired of police treating the citizens like enemy combatants and they are the conquering heros.

I AGREE! This way, when cops make “an honest mistake” it will be the insurance company paying for those court costs and claims, instead of the family of the beaten/killed victim bearing their own money towards their own court-ordered rewards!

Actually they are bonded and these can be chased. But very few know about the surety bonding standard.
More need to know, more need to chase these bonds and things will change.
Hardly, my wife became a grandma at 38.
Now there are some Grandmothers !
Not a death penalty offense.

No one got the death penalty here. The grandmother made a poorly advised decision that cost her her life.
Suicide by cop is a more accurate description of the facts.
Not allowed to shoot someone fleeing if they are only wanted for fleeing or a minor offense. Settled law.
If she was driving at the officer or pulled a gun, that is one thing and would be suicide by cop. This was a poor decision on the officers part that should result in consequences the same as us little people would receive.
Not allowed to shoot someone fleeing if they are only wanted for fleeing or a minor offense. Settled law.

See post 8. All 50 states have similar laws that allow and permit cops to use deadly force if a suspect attempts to flee.
And courts have allowed such laws.
Not all LEO agencies adhere to these laws. And you may not like or agree with them.
But they save lives. The officers on the street. And untold thousands who know better than to try and flee.
