Nov. 1 (UPI) -- An Ontario, Canada, man harvested an 8-foot, 4.79-inch zucchini from his garden that might be the longest on record.

Henry D'Angela said he has applied to Guinness World Records to have his zucchini certified as the longest in the world.

VIDEO AT LINK.........

The current record zucchini of 8 feet, 3.3 inches was grown by John Giovanni Scozzafavain from Niagara Falls, Ontario, in 2014.

"I didn't start out to grow the longest," D'Angela told ThoroldToday. "It just happened to be in a new area I had never grown before. The soil has done really well for it. It's amazing."

He said he is keeping the massive zucchini in his garage until he hears back from Guinness World Records.

"When they open the farmer's market in Thorold next year, I should bring this as a novelty," he said. "So Thorold can be known as having the biggest zucchini in the world."

Saw it on TV last night. Amazing...

When I lived in Virginia for a year, one southern belle said all she knew about NY was to lock your car...or they'd fill it with Zuchinni.

Small town tradition in the Midwest. Leave car unlocked and get zucchini. Also left on counters in post offices.

doesnt look like a zucchini, it looks like a snake gourd. Edible but not as tasty as zucchini.

I harvested and ate all my zucchini well before they got that big. My biggest was about the size of a baseball bat. It had sneakily been growing on a part of the vine in the back of the raised bed. And boy, were they good!

It’s not the length that matters.

It’s the girth.

Or so I’m told.

there are varieties than can grow very long, but that is crazy.....I think if you have a long enough season and an area where the zuch can grow uninhibited, its possible apparently to get one that long....I also think he might have cut off other blossoms on the same plant to focus on that one big zucchini.
