A couple was left stunned and is now venting after a Georgia restaurant added a $50 'unable to parent' surcharge to their bill over their 'loud' children's alleged bad behavior.
Lyndsey Landmann and husband Kyle slammed Toccoa River Restaurant in Blue Ridge, with Kyle taking to Google two weeks ago, to leave a review saying he was 'disappointed by the experience.'
'The owner came out and told me he was adding $50 to my bill because of my children’s behavior,' he wrote. 'My kids watched a tablet until the food arrived, ate their food and my wife took them outside while I waited and paid the bill.'
Kyle's wife, Lyndsey, told TODAY that she was appalled - and insisted her brood was well-behaved.
The Florida couple was with their three young boys and four other families. Eleven children sat at the table, ranging from three to eight years old.
'The kids were sitting at one end of the table and they were being so good,” Landmann said. 'I even commented halfway through the meal, "I can’t believe how well-behaved they are."'
After dessert, some of the parents took their children down to the water - and that's when restaurant owner Tim Richter approached, Landmann said.
Richter told the party about the additional charge on the menu, which reads: 'Adult surcharge: For adults unable to parent.
'Be Respectful to staff, property, and self. No Respect, No Service.'

I am on Team Restaurant.
I would just leave and not pay.
If the kids aren’t compliant with Civil Society, don’t take them out to eat.
If it says the “charge” is no service .... they served them ...
if it says 50$ then they may be able to charge.
Can’t change the contract ... my opinion ... and I pretend to be a lawyer every now and then.... when I’m not a pirate.
I would take 100 off for the lousy food.
Parent comments about hat they are behaving beautifully. Owner says they were behaving badly. One of them is simply lying. I say that the parent is lying.
Not enough info to weigh in for or against the parents.
But nevertheless, this $50 charge is BS. And IF the parents paid it, then yeah. They are probably guilty.
As well as stupid.
Based on the restaurant trying to scam the family out of $50.00, I would never eat there myself.
Oh I agree and since none of us where there it’s hard to make the call.
However if the children were bad then the manager should have said something while the behavior was happening. Maybe thrown them out if it is that bad? Think about the other people eating who don’t want their meal ruined?
Now he has bad press and no one is sure who to believe. Plus he looks like a thief charging money for a fake service.
We’re not hearing the entire story. Something isn’t right here, and I’m guessing it’s the parents who have distorted things. The restaurant has nothing to gain by selecting a well-behaved family and making a scene over it.
Just the very idea that a retaurant would feel compelled to add this dick message to their menu tells me this is a hostile place to be avoided.
Not enough info to weigh in for or against the parents.
Agree., but in my many years of eating at restaurants, I've seen WAY more obnoxious adults than kids.
Without any objective evidence like surveillance tapes I’m on the side of the families. Did the restaurant owner warn them about the children’s behavior? Doesn’t say so. Unless they were warned and the purported bad behavior continued i say the restaurant should get sued and bad reviewed.
Check out the family photos at the link.
Now if these people were Canadians - then yeah. Guilty
And of course we can’t tell behaviors based on looks alone.
But these people look decent. And just the nasty tone of the menu tells me the restaurant owner is a jerk.
Not my sweet angels, they’re not disruptive. If I had a dollar every time I heard those words when I was on the school board.
Children should behave well.
Parents should parent well.
But, quite apart from such considerations, I do not see how a business can slap an extra $50 on the bill essentially because “we don’t like people like you”.
Can I take $50 off the bill because “I didn’t enjoy my meal”? I don’t think so.
Quick! Everybody pick a side! You don’t have anything more important to think about.
I’m on the side of the restaurant as well. They wouldn’t have done it if the people weren’t disrupting other patrons. I’m sick of being in public places with idiots who refuse to control their brats.
They can charge whatever they want. it doesn’t need to be paid.
