Day 606: Oct 22
Today, there are a lot of updates from the Avdiivka direction.
Here, Russian forces raised the stakes even higher and conducted another massive attack in the north, while Ukrainians conducted a powerful counterattack in the south, threatening to undermine the whole Russian offensive operation.
FIRST of all, when it comes to the northern part of the region, as expected, the main target of Russian forces became Terrikon. Last time, I told you that during the last attack, Russian forces only managed to establish control over a couple of tree lines in front of the mount, which did not change the situation a lot, from the tactical perspective.
However, the Russians understood it as well. They knew that they were going to lose these gains very rapidly unless they doubled down immediately with the same intensity to leverage their new positions in front of the mount. That is why Russians gathered forces for a new wave of attacks and tried to break into Terrikon at all costs, despite the fact that they would suffer from fire from almost all directions while trying to drive up the passage onto the first and second floors of this heap.
Geolocated footage shows how dozens and dozens of Russian tanks and armored fighting vehicles are heading from Krasnohorivka and Vesele to Terrikon. As you can see, the closest entrance to Terrikon is very far away from the Russian side, so in order to break into the region, they need to completely expose their flanks by driving right in front of the Ukrainian firing positions. On top of that, the Ukrainian artillery also does not need additional corrections and is ready to fire at the roads the moment Russian columns get close.
As you can see, Russian forces have already lost dozens of vehicles on the same spot in previous attacks. Nonetheless, the new assault unit was sent to push through the death zone. Russians suffered mindboggling losses and continued to bury their assault units in front of the mount. Ukrainian fighters from the 110 Brigade, who are responsible for this section, reported that their drone operators use multiple crates of grenades every day due to the sheer number of targets.
Russian forces also tried to support their offensive efforts with aviation. Unfortunately for Russians, their air defense system shot down their own helicopter Mi-8, killing the whole crew. Russian sources also reported that Russians lost a battalion commander during one of the attacks. Some Russian analysts claimed that one of the goals of Russian forces is to force Ukrainians to run out of shells and bullets. And it seems like it is partially true because despite the incurred losses, Russians managed to overwhelm Ukrainians, and several Russian armored fighting vehicles reportedly got onto the mount and started storming Ukrainian positions.
Ukrainian fighters reported that the remnants of this assault unit were eventually liquidated, but it seems like the Russians damaged firing positions on Terrikon, so Ukrainians stepped back, both sides established fire control, and now no one physically controls the mount. This is an unfavorable development for Ukrainians because they lost a tactical advantage and are now at the same elevation. Moreover, if Russians establish control over the heap in a future attack, then they will set the conditions for the encirclement from the north.
Luckily, the Ukrainian commanders did not plan to stay passive in hopes that Russians would not be able to advance. As you remember, the Ukrainian High Command recently had several important meetings with the forces on the ground to plan their next moves, and it seems like the topic of the meeting was a counterattack from the south. Today, Russian sources reported that Ukrainians conducted a powerful counterattack from the south.
The goal of the counterattack is to advance towards Pisky and, ideally, even further. This way, Ukrainians will cut off Russian forces in Vodiane and Opytne from the mainland, eliminating the bridgehead that Russians were building all this time to set conditions for the encirclement from the south.
If this attack is successful, Russian advances in the north will lose their operational significance, and yet another encirclement operation will fail. So far, Ukrainians managed to advance toward the fortification under the bridge, and as Russian sources reported, the pressure on Pisky increases with every second.

Russia’s losses in Ukraine as of October 23 exceed 294 thousand occupiers

As of Monday, October 23, Russian losses in the war in Ukraine have reached 870 occupiers, with the overall number of Russian military casualties since the invasion’s onset totaling 294,700 personnel. Additionally, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have successfully eliminated 12 tanks, 22 armored vehicles, and 25 artillery systems, according to the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
The total Russian combat losses from February 24, 2022 to October 23, 2023 are estimated as follows:
• Personnel: Approximately 294,700 (an increase of 870 individuals)
• Tanks: 5,093 (an increase of 12)
• Armored vehicles: 9,653 (an increase of 22)
• Artillery systems: 7,057 (an increase of 25)
• Multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS): 825
• Anti-aircraft defense systems: 551 (an increase of 2)
• Aircraft: 320
• Helicopters: 324
• Operational-tactical UAVs: 5,345 (an increase of 6)
• Cruise missiles: 1,536 (an increase of 1)
• Ships/boats: 20
• Submarines: 1
• Motor vehicles and tankers: 9,419 (an increase of 15)
• Special equipment: 998 (an increase of 7)
Russian losses in Ukraine
During the week of October 16 to October 22, Ukrainian military forces successfully eliminated 6,060 Russian soldiers. Furthermore, the Ukrainian Armed Forces managed to destroy three aircraft, eight helicopters, and 70 UAVs.
Additionally, on the Tavria sector, 615 occupiers were eliminated, and a Russian radar system, the Zoopark, valued at over 10 million dollars, was also destroyed yesterday.

On the night of October 23, Russian forces launched a drone attack on the Odesa region, with nine of the Shahed drones being successfully intercepted by Ukrainian air defense systems, according to the Southern Defense Forces.
The night attack lasted for over 3.5 hours, during which the enemy directed kamikaze drones from the Crimean Chauda Cape towards the port infrastructure of Odesa. Most of these drones approached their targets from the sea, where they were met by Ukrainian anti-aircraft units.
“Nine UAVs were downed in the Odesa region, with another one shot down in the Vinnytsia region,” stated the Defense Forces.
The debris from one of the downed drones damaged the roof of a warehouse building in the port infrastructure area of the Odesa district. The resulting fire was swiftly extinguished by firefighters, and fortunately, no casualties were reported.
Night attack
During the night attack on October 23, Russians targeted Ukraine with missiles and kamikaze drones, leading to the sounding of air raid sirens in certain regions. Explosions were heard in Odesa and the Kirovohrad region, where air defense systems were activated.
Earlier in the evening, a hostile drone was detected in the Kyiv region, with Ukrainian air defense successfully neutralizing it.

Russia freezes education and health spending to boost defense spending.
This is stated in the analytical report of the Ministry of Defense of Great Britain, Censor.NET informs.
“Russian spending from the budget is increasingly focused on spending on the war against Ukraine. In particular, the proposed state budget for 2024 provides for an increase in planned defense spending by approximately 68% compared to the 2023 budget. This means that defense spending in 2024 will amount to about 6% of GDP,” the report said.
Experts note that, in contrast, spending on education and health care in Russia will be frozen at the level of 2023, which means a real reduction due to inflation. At the same time, the Russian Federation will have to allocate more funds to finance payments and health care costs for the growing number of wounded soldiers and families of those killed in the conflict.
“More than half of the soldiers who received injuries severe enough to require long-term treatment lost their limbs, and one in five of them required amputation of their upper limbs,” analysts point out, referring to the words of Russian Deputy Minister of Labor Alexei Vovchenko, adding that these wounded soldiers will require lifelong medical care.
At the same time, experts point out that a consistent increase in military spending will most likely lead to inflationary pressure in Russia. Also, the continued increase in military spending will force the Russian government to make difficult decisions about how to finance the war, which is likely to increase the financial pressure on Russian businesses.
“However, any significant reduction in military spending in the future will probably lead to the elimination of the main driver of Russian economic activity under sanctions,” experts believe.

Russia's latest campaign turns into bloodbath with '90 percent increase' in casualties

Russia has been suffering huge personnel and equipment losses since it launched an attack on the Ukrainian city of Avdiivka on October 10
Russia's attempt to conquer the Ukrainian city of Avdiivka on the eastern frontline is turning into a bloodbath.
An intelligence update shared on Sunday by the UK Defence Ministry read: "Recent Russian assaults in Avdiivka have contributed to a 90 percent increase in Russian casualties recorded by the Ukrainian MoD."
While the Kremlin doesn't share data regarding its military losses in Ukraine, the British MoD noted "it is likely that Russia has suffered 150,000-190,000 permanent casualties (killed and permanently wounded) since the conflict began".
The total figure including temporarily wounded - soldiers due to return to the battlefield after recovery - may be "in the region of 240,000-290,000", the intelligence update said.

That’s what they fail to understand. If they posted a couple of articles a day for discussion, that would be in keeping with the site’s intent.
But they post this daily garbage and post to themselves or their cult members over and over again, polluting the place with propaganda.
Then, they try to bully any opposition with insults, false accusations, word-twisting and threats. That part is kind of funny, because they really do come off as silly little ankle-nippers trying to sound fierce.
They’re a strange lot and one wonders about their motivations to do this.

Yes this beyond repetitious. Day after day of this tedious soap opera. "Pray for Ukraine''. No one really cares about an Eastern European country that at this time last year they had never heard of and couldn't have found on a map as big as a barn door. Billions of our tax dollars have gone down a rat hole with no accounting of where exactly it's been spent and that Zelensky is demanding more. Meanwhile our southern border no longer exists, millions of illegals have poured in here with over a hundred of them listed on the terrorist watch list. The next 9/11 is waiting to happen and when it does, God forbid NONE of these Ukrainian bots and war cheerleaders will own up to their hand in it. Why do the Robinson's allow this person or persons to dominate the site is beyond me.
