1) Note that regardless or what happens on the Speaker vote, Rep. David Joyce (R-OH) has a resolution - which would go immediately to the front of the legislative line - to empower Speaker Pro Tempore Patrick McHenry (R-NC).
2) The resolution would require the House to ELECT McHenry as Speaker Pro Tempore for a fixed period.
House precedent and rules would allow McHenry to run the House as an elected Speaker Pro Tempore compared to being an appointed one now.
3) There is nothing Jordan or his allies could do to stop this resolution from hitting the floor.
A simple majority would win.
4) There is precedent for this. In 1961, House Speaker Sam Rayburn (D-TX) fell ill and later died. The House elected future permanent Speaker John McCormack (D-MA) Speaker Pro Tempore in Rayburn’s absence before he died.
5) The House was operable during this period and able to pass bills, including a measure to create the Peace Corps under JFK

Unfortunately, Rep. David Joyce (R-OH) is my RINO rep and rarely replies to any of my comms...when he does it’s always indirect and prevaricating.
