MUSIC legend, Leo Sayer has recently announced that his upcoming UK shows have had to be cancelled following health complications which have seen the star hospitalised for three weeks.
The renowned singer Leo Sayer, now resident in Australia, recently disclosed his health issues on Facebook due to complications with his kidney, bladder, and prostate.
Speaking of his hospitalisation he said: ‘I haven’t posted anything publicly about this before but I couldn’t fly or make the recent shows in the UK as I became very ill just before the trip.’
The star added: ‘I have been in hospital here for the last 3 weeks in Australia with kidney, bladder and prostrate complications. It all happened at the last moment, so it was too late to warn anyone.
He went on to thank tour organisers and apologise to his loyal fans: ‘Many thanks to Butlins and Tony Denton for making replacement arrangements for these shows. I’m so sorry to have disappointed my fans but these things can happen to us 75-year-olds!’
He concluded with some reassuring words: ‘I’m still in hospital now but well on the mend. I will take a necessary short break from activities and be back fighting for shows in 2024 – particularly my UK and Ireland tour next autumn.’
‘Thank you everyone for all your concerns and good wishes… feeling thankful at Southern Highlands private Hospital.’
Leo’s Music Legacy Many will remember Leo’s hits dating back to the 70s, there’s bound to be one in the list below to get anyone humming and singing along.
When I Need You You Make Me Feel Like Dancing Raining in My Heart Dancing the Night Away Thunder in My Heart One Man Band Long Tall Glasses (I Can Dance) Moonlighting In view of Leo’s vow to return to the stage, perhaps his most poignant song would be his breakthrough single in 1973 ‘The Show Must Go On,’ which reached number two in the UK charts.
Leo’s Fans React Fans took to social media to pass on their best wishes: ‘Take care & take your time to get really well and strong again to rock the stages…. Best wishes,’ wrote one.
Another person added: ‘Aww so sorry to hear that you’ve not been well. With best wishes for a speedy recovery and hope to see you next Autumn in Scunthorpe!!’
While one person concluded: ‘Hope you are doing ok Leo. You still make me feel like dancing!!!’
He had some really cool tunes in the 70’s.
I was travellin’ down the road feelin’ hungry and cold
I saw a sign sayin’ “Food and Drinks for Everyone”
So naturally, I thought I would take me a look inside
Plenty of yacht rock hits
This is well put.
I thought “legend” was stretching it quite a bit.
He also did an anti-lockdown song in 2019-2020 called “My City in Lockdown”, which some pretty good bits in it:
I walk empty streets through a desperate town
Can’t believe this thing that we’re staring down
Everybody’s at home it’s a crime no joke
When your flicking your fingers at a tv remote
I put my mask on run to the store and queue
And there’s a guy there pushing me to let him on through
This social distance just don’t work
When most folk here just act like jerks
Prayers for him.
Hell, I remember Glenn Miller!
I would not say “Yuge” or Legend.
“Long tall glasses of wine up to he-yar”
Well, that’s More Than I Can Say.
Wrote The Show Must Go On which 3 Dog Night covered and Just A Boy for Roger Daltry. He had 4 Top Ten Hits including 2 Number 1’s and overall 8 in the Top 40.
I saw him in Cincinnati a couple of months back and he was excellent. Incredible vocal range and energy plus a very good harp player. I’d go see him again.
Yes, but he didn't write You Make Me Feel Like Dancin'?. The record company stole it from Ray Parker Jr.
He mentioned Ray was an inspiration on stage before the song. Happens all the time. How long before George coughed up big bucks for My Sweet Lord? There’s probably some blues artist estate waiting on royalties from Jimmy Page. Beach Boys borrowed from Chuck Berry. And then there’s Ice Ice Baby...lol
Oh wow. Never knew that. (Of course I was probably 11 yo). Still…concur with your statement.
That wasn’t the case in this one. Parker wrote the song and did a demo, then he made a deal with the label, that was very much in their favor, and they agreed to credit and royalties. This wasn’t borrowing, it was straight up theft. I don’t know how much Sayer knew, but he definitely knew he didn’t write it.
Parker doesn’t blame Sayer for the behind-the-scenes machinations, insisting it was a higher up’s decision not to put his name on the record. “It’s not Leo’s fault,” he insists. “He tried to cut six of seven more of my songs just because he felt so bad.”
Last I heard of Leo he was comparing himself and his career to that of The Beatles. How I laughed and laughed…
‘You need to be really old to remember him... And those memories aren’t exactly memorable.’
I’m in my 75th year, but I never have been the most observant guy...
“I live you more than I can say”
