According to the Scottish news outlet EdinburbghLive, the owner of a Tesla has been asked by the company to fork over the equivalent of more than $20,000 for repairs to a battery that was reportedly damaged by rain while it was parked on a street in the Scottish capital last week.
Sound like it might be a problem? The owner sure thought so.
According to the report, the vehicle belongs to Johnny Bacigalupo and Rob Hussey, a gay couple living in the Edinburgh suburbs. On Oct. 7, they drove into the city for dinner without any problem, but they found the car wouldn’t start afterward.
They waited for hours for Tesla roadside assistance, EdinburghLive reported, which only resulted in the vehicle being hauled away.
But that was only the beginning of the trouble.
“After complaints from me, we received a call at 5:30 p.m. on the Wednesday, saying the battery was damaged due to water ingress and it was unfortunately not covered by the battery’s 8-year warranty, and so the repair would be around £17,500 [$21,351],” Bacigalupo said, according to the report.
“Did I wish to proceed? I was flabbergasted and couldn’t really find my words.”
The report, unfortunately, did not specify the make or model year of the Tesla in question, but a $20,000 car repair bill would leave just about anybody “flabbergasted.”
And the company’s excuse — that the electric vehicle was disabled by a rainstorm — would have left a resident of the traditionally wet Britain even more so.
“After finally getting to speak to a manager, he told me it had water in it due to the fact the weather in Scotland has been so bad,” Bacigalupo told EdinburghLive.

I had a 1959 Dodge Coronet. I had no garage in my cheap rented apartment, so Every time it rained, the car would not start. I found out it was hairline crack in the distributor cap.
I bet it was just a bad distributor cap. I had that problem in my 1959 Dodge Coronet hard top.
Only a fool would buy an EV if his career or well being depended on that EV. If you really need a vehicle for freedom, job, recreation or family, get an ICE. Otherwise become subservient to the people who want to control you and your behavior.
Btw, this is what astounds me... “saying the battery was damaged due to water ingress and it was unfortunately not covered by the battery’s 8-year warranty”
And these guys just accepted that?! “It rained on your car so the warranty does not apply.” At least contact Musk and get his answer.
Apparently EVs aren’t suited to a cold climate.
Is that irony or Alanis Morissette irony?
My first car was a 1989 Mazda MX-6. I named her, “Putt-Putt” on account of sounding and handling like a go-kart.
Putt-Putt would frequently refuse to start for whatever reason - we never figured out why. Even though she was originally my Dad’s car, she always started for me.
a very expensive dud:

Why do they bother to mention that the owners of the broken Tesla are H O M O S E X U A L S?

Why does it bother you that they did ?
If you do not pay child support, Tesla will disable your EV remotely.
If engine has good compression, almost certainly it is electrical problem somewhere. Bad ignition wires is the usual suspect. In older cars the distributor was the main suspect.
Batteries were probably contaminated and corroded by large amounts of semen seeping under the back seat. Is that not covered by the warranty?
I truly don’t get how Elon gets away with selling cars with these well known negatives. One would think selling cars with highly flammable batteries would by itself be a disqualifying feature for a prospective buyer or insurer.
Someone is going to lose his home due to his neighbor owning a Tesla starting a two day long lithium fire, and that homeowner will be reaching into Elons deep pockets to pay for the damages. Its just a matter of time.
That’s the only thing I could think of but didn’t see that mentioned. EVs are fair-weather vehicles apparently.
Great day in the morning! I hope none of my neighbors have an EV.
Some umbrellas say “rain resistant.” Guess they work unless it rains hard.
Maybe they can ramp up the EV ads showing perfect weather like they did for the regular Segway and for the Ninebot One S1 - Segway that looks like a unicycle.
Ads show perfect day in May with a man wearing a suit and tie or some carefree young people smiling in the sunshine.
Not shown: Michigan ice storm after 12 inch snowfall with 40-50 mph winds coming in from the lakes.
EV sidelined due to water.
There ya go.
Reason 1 gazillion not to get a electric car.
Car gets wet and is totaled....!!
Well, they knew they were buying a risky, poorly tested technology that was at high risk of failure. Who’s supposed to pay for the repair, them, or someone else?
I guess that puts the introduction of an electric Jet Ski off a few years.
On the eastern side of Oregon and Washington there is little rain and on the west side it is more like what people from other areas would consider to be “drizzle”. So, no.
