Patients who had common procedures performed outside of the operating room (OR) were more likely to go home instead of to a long-term care facility when they were discharged from the hospital if their sedation was administered or directed by an anesthesiologist, rather than by a physician who is not a trained anesthesiologist, according to a study.
Patients who need catheters placed in a vein, angiograms (X-ray of the blood vessels), image-guided biopsies and many other procedures typically are treated in the interventional radiology (IR) suite instead of the OR and given sedation.
In the study, 9,682 patients had sedation in the IR suite and 1,639 (16.93%) were discharged from the hospital to a long-term care facility (such as a nursing home) because of complications that they may be more likely to experience due to their disease. Anesthesiologists have the training to identify these complications early and address them.
Of those who were not discharged home, 1,429 (87%) had their sedation administered or directed by a physician who was not an anesthesiologist, often with the assistance of a nurse, and 210 (13%) had their sedation administered or directed by an anesthesiologist.
"The anesthesiologist is not just providing sedation, but life support for the patient during the procedure," said Dr. Eikermann. "The difference in outcomes is because anesthesiologists are trained to identify early complications and treat them immediately. Physicians who are not anesthesiologists are not trained to do that."
Anesthesiologists administered or directed sedation for higher-risk patients, such as those with more health issues or who had more invasive procedures. Despite being at higher risk, the patients who received sedation administered or directed by an anesthesiologist were nearly 70% more likely to be discharged home than those whose sedation was administered or directed by a physician who was not an anesthesiologist.

Over the last twenty years, I have been sedated for medical procedures three times. The care and professionalism of the anesthesiologists was impressive.

I went to an oral surgeon who gave me too much, and they couldn’t wake me up. My sister was freaking out.
This is because of the division of labor of specialties.
Most anesthesiologists were against receiving the shots themselves.
In terms of caring for Covid patients, anesthesiologists did the lion's share of hands-on, airway, aerosolized, exposure-intensive care of them. They and the ICU nurses were most at risk, along with many intensivists, ER physicians, and others.
But just for the record, anesthesiologists had nothing to do with advancing the murderous Covid shot scam.

Conrad Murray was Michael Jackson’s $150,000/mo personal “physician.” Who was hired to provide nightly propofol for insomnia. Convicted of involuntary manslaughter and served 2 years of a 4 year sentence. He’s now a doctor in Trinidad and Tobago. He was not an anesthesiologist, but was a cardiologist. He was not monitoring MJ adequately. His lawyers claimed the MJ had surreptitiously taken extra propofol and lorazepam (Ativan) while Murray’s back was turned. He lost medical licenses in Texas, Nevada, and California.
Agreed. What I don’t understand though is that after procedures, the doc comes in after you wake up, to talk to you, but you are so out of it that you remember practically nothing lol. I always have someone with me who can listen to the doc for me though.
Had that when they Tried getting liver biopsies- I could cefinatdly fealt it, with a bitmof pain, but certainly nowhere near like it would have felt with out sedation. The doc doing the biopsies missed the liver- never did bet another one done. My gastro who ordered the test couldn’t understand how the doc failed to get samples- said he was really good at it-

We had one make a serious mistake not long ago.

Lol, I am too. Fallen through ice on several,occasions, fell 3 stories once, 3 car nearly head on accident at 60 mph (cars were angled just right so that it wasn’t full head on thanks goodness),house burned down (fire started a 1/2 hour before bedtime), nearly bled to death from ulcer (intense scene that looked straight out of the movie Carrie- long story- had to have transfusions), cancer a couple of times, health condition that has defied docs predictions of dying at young age, peritonitis that caused what fol,s call an NDE (near death experience), which i beleive was nothing but high fever causing hallucinations- and of course stupid stunts on 3-wheelers, sno Machines, motorcycles etc where I have been very fortunate to have survived. There’s more, lots more, but It’s just amazing that the bell hasn’t tolled for me yet. Only the good die young, so I should be safe.

Bill Clinton’s law when Hillarycare tried to take over the health care system settled on a compromise that allowed CRNAs independent scope of care without MD oversight. I believe Clinton has a family member who is a CRNA. The restriction was removed and now 30 years later the American Association of nurse anesthetists last year changed to American Association of Nurse Anesthesiologists. There are many lawsuits pending.
CRNAs have 8 years less training than an anesthesiologist. But they are blurring the lines intentionally. They do have independent practice and mostly in rural areas exercise it.
Caveat Emptor. Be sure anesthesia is either administered personally by or under the supervision of an anesthesiologist. This study clearly demonstrates the difference.
A cardiologist was administering propofol to Jackson for sleep nightly. It was not an MDA

thanks- it’s been a crazy trip for sure- i always say that it is mind over matter- if one doesn’t mind, then it doesn’t matter- I have a “Meh” attitude when it comes to surgeries- If i make it, ok- if not, that’s ok too-
The Lord sure has been on my side- when i fell 3 stories, it was into a bison pen- thankfully the adults were all down in the lower pen, and i was able to crawl out before they came to investigate- When i fell- i hit the ground, feet first- then face hit between my feet as i crumpled and bounced— it was next to a piece of roofing metal that had fallen off- and got buried in the hay and mud- it was standing on edge- i bounced over it- if i had been just a 1/2 foot to the side, i coulda lost an arm or leg- or worse- but the fall was just perfect- and i had no injuries- it’s like angels directed the incident- The owner of the place asked “Did you dock yourself for the 10 minutes you took off to recover”? LOL- He was just kidding of course-
That farm was a dangerous place- My bro and i were caretakers for it-
I cut my face with chainsaw when the saw hit the end of a log and shot up at me- (No chain arrest on it) - cut right down my eye socket, under my nose, and somehow hit my chin too- The eye cut was very fortunate- it didn’t hit the actual eyeball- Again- The Lord Saved me from it being a worse accident than it could have been- The farm was the place that burned down- again, it was perfect timing as it was just about bed time when it broke out- The wind was howling- Feb snowstorm- Sparks from the fire got up under the shingles because of the winds- in a part of the place that wasn’t used- Again, the Lord was watching out for us-
I tried telling the owner i was a Jonah- but he refused to believe it- but i think he mighta leaned that way after awhile lol
