Mary Lou Retton, the first American woman to win all-around gymnastics gold at the Olympics, is "fighting for her life" with a serious illness, according to a fundraiser posted by her daughter.

McKenna Lane Kelley said her mother has "a very rare form of pneumonia" and is "not able to breathe on her own." She said Retton has been in the ICU for more than a week and is not insured but declined to go into further details.

Proceeds from the fundraiser will reportedly go to Retton's hospital bills.

Kelley is the second of Retton's four daughters and was a gymnast herself at LSU from 2016 to 2019.

Pneumonia is just another form of COVID. Wonder what caused her immune system to get so weak to get it?

“No medical insurance”

how could someone like Retton not have medical insurance? ... I detect the distinct odor of SCAM ...

Re: 2 - Good grief.

You don’t know ‘jack about her illness other than what has been reported.

And you use her illness to push a narrative.

Just ignorantly ghoulish.

"All kinds of “rare” cancers and infections have been happening the last two/three years."

This was at least 7-8 years ago. One of my nephews, a twin, now 52, was hospitalized in ICU, after returning from a trip to Florida. He came down with something, and it took the hospital a while to figure out what type of treatment he needed. They had to do a culture and wait for the results. He was on a ventilator then too, and it was touch and go. I think one of the meds they finally put him on was Tamiflu. Thankfully he recovered. He has been diagnosed with sleep apnea since then, and has to use a machine at night.

How terrible. I am so sorry to hear this and am not blaming people like your wife. The propaganda and relentless fearmongering took its toll, especially from the tv and the doctors who were pushing it so hard even after the death spike in Jan2021. What does her doctor say now? Did anyone report this to VAERS? I watched a former coworker, retired, extremely healthy and active all of a sudden develop a “sudden and rare” kidney problem. Turned into a turbo cancer and was dead in a few months leaving the doctors baffled baffled. I asked his wife while he was in the hospital if he had gotten the Covid inoculates. She replied, Oh yes, and fully boosted, too (4 shots in 18 months). She’s been an unexpected widow for a year now for Zero good reason.

Mary Lou Retton was practically a poster child for American optimism. I pray for her recovery and for her family.
