I have an AR-15 and I like it. It’s very accurate with my handloads and stone cold reliable. However, in a situation like that I’d grab my AR-10. They may hide behind their truck but it wouldn’t much good.
So 98% of the country can buy exactly how many guns available for sale?
It’s not like gun vendors have stock to equipment a country’s worth of buyers.
When did they disarm?
I sort of remember that Israeli population was fully armed?
I would think.
I saw photos of this, Israelis have loads of personal weapons locked in community storerooms. These weapons are being retrieved right now. All over Israel.
Though, a sane policy would be (and will surely happen) is that all Israelis who live close to Muslim borders will be allowed to keep weapons in their house. Though too late for this current invasion from Gaza.
For sure, the average Israeli gun owner has been more disarmed than the average Canadian or Australian.
This was apparently a gun free zone. GUN FREE ZONES KILL!

Those are nearly all reservists, who are required to carry their weapons with them during their time on active duty.

Some civilians have always been allowed to have guns. The number has always been relatively small, less than 2% of the population. There has been a push to reduce the number in recent years.
As a policy, it makes no sense to me. Israelis are very responsible people. The number of accidents and murders with guns would always be very, very small.
A policy like Switzerland would make a lot more sense.
Every person trained in the Israeli military should be mandated to keep a rifle or pistol at home, imho.

I read the document. Almost like California law. I’m amazed. I guess liberal government is liberal government, regardless of location.
It is much harder to obtain a firearm or a carry permit in Israel than it is in California.
Bibi's "conservative" government in action. Can't have guns... but if you want to have a sex change operation or unlimited abortions, you are WELCOME to do so -- at taxpayer expense! "Conservative" Likud has spoken!
One of the reasons I will NEVER "stand with Israel" when it comes to their godawful DOMESTIC policies!
