The United States has transferred American munitions stored in Israel for use in Ukraine and plans to send more soon, US and Israeli officials told CNN Wednesday.

A US official told CNN they have moved “some” of the 300,000 155-millimeter shells that the US and Israel agreed would be transferred, and that there are plans to move the remaining amount in the coming weeks.

Israel Defense Forces spokesperson Richard Hecht told CNN that the Americans notified the Israelis a while ago they were transferring munitions. Hecht said the munitions are US-owned, that their movements are “American business” and that they don’t need Israeli permission to move the munitions.

“In support of security assistance packages to Ukraine via the Presidential Drawdown Authority, the DOD has been able to transfer materiel and equipment while maintaining military readiness. Due to operational security considerations, we will not discuss the location or units providing the equipment or materiel,” Pentagon spokesman Brig. Gen. Patrick Ryder said in a statement. “As we provide aid to Ukraine, we are also working to replenish US inventories and backfill depleted stocks of allies and partners.”

These supplies belong to and are maintained by the American military, they do not belong to the nation we maintain the base in.

Nah, they're just lying around on empty lots in shipping containers.

The host country doesn't have custody or any responsibility for them.

Have I taught you that when somebody starts their tweet response in debate "so, you're saying that..." - that is always a sign of cognitive dissonance, and that there are two things to look for.

First is the word "so" at the beginning of the sentence, but that's not 100 reliable - but ninety percent of the time in the context of a debate it is a signal that the next thing I'm going to say is nonsense.

What kind of nonsense? A special kind, right?

Absurd absolutes - that's one where they say "oh, so you're saying that 100 people out of 100 people die from a vaccination", for example. Right? That would be an absurd absolute.

The other is word salad, where you look at the sentence and you say - that doesn't even look like a person who knows how words go together. Right?

And then the other is, as was mentioned, is mind reading - where somebody says "oh, so you're thinking that gravity is really made of chocolate", and you think literally no one thinks gravity is made of chocolate - literally no one - and yet you've read my mind to think that's in there.

Right? That's just a clear sign of cognitive dissonance.

I think it does. Given the high probability that terrorists will attack Israel at some point and that Israel will need our support, it's better to have the munitions in place already.

If I'm storing a pallet of ammunition for my buddy Bob, and I get attacked by random nutzoids, and I suddenly need the pallet of ammo, I'm not going to say "Hey, I can't use Bob's ammo, because it's his, not mine!"

I'll get Bob's ammo back to him in full, after I use what I need.

These stockpiles of vehicles and munitions are our response to the reality that, unlike in WW I or WW II, the bad guys just won’t hang around for us to get our act together and ship enough munitions over to whup ‘em.

It took, ten to twelve weeks to gear up for Desert Storm? Modern warfare take lots of weapons and systems, and lots of weapons systems means shipping across the Atlantic or the Pacific. And shipping takes time and coordination.

Do our lefties think that Iran, Russia or China will just hang around making speeches for a few months until we finally get the logistics in place to blow them up?

Nope, making speeches is the job of our current Pentagon and Congress.

It would take weeks to load up an armored Division and ship it some place where it’s needed. Weeks. These things have to be loaded on ships. As massive as our air transport system is it cannot move that amount of gear. We need to preposition gear overseas to stand a chance of getting it where it’s needed in any sort of decent time frame

I don’t know how you thought we were going to fight the Soviets for example, we needed supplies to equip our 100,000s of troops that would hopefully survive the efforts to get to Europe if the Soviets attacked, and as the most violent war the world has ever known was devouring ammo and equipment.

The US stores munitions, tanks, aircraft, and etc. in Israel and a few other places around the world like Diego Garcia. This way in case there’s a problem we send troops by air and everything they need is already close to where they need it.

The 3rd ID was above 90 percent supplied when it began the attack on Baghdad, including 218 of 259 Unit Identification Code sets (UICs). Collectively, for OIF, APS issued 218 APS UIC sets; 17,655 pieces of rolling stock;
124,400 sets, kits, and outfits; 119,194 medical supply class VIII items; 482,993 repair parts; and 5,986 containers.
