Gun manufacturing giant Smith & Wesson hosted a grand opening of its $125 million new Tennessee headquarters after moving from its longtime home in Massachusetts.
The company built a new 650,000-square feet office in Maryville as part of a relocation plan announced in 2021.
The gunmaker had been located in Springfield, Massachusetts, since the mid-19th century, but hoped to move to a more gun-friendly state.
'From where I stand, the next 170 years of Smith & Wesson are looking pretty good. It is something special here in Tennessee,' President and CEO Mark Smith said at Saturday's grand opening.
Smith & Wesson officials have said legislative proposals in Massachusetts would prohibit them from manufacturing certain weapons.
The Democrat led state is known to have some of the country´s strictest gun laws.
Smith said The Volunteer State's welcoming regulatory environment and close collaboration with the state government was a crucial piece of the plan to relocate.
He said the new facility would create hundreds of jobs.
Tennessee has moved to loosen gun restrictions in recent years under Republican leadership.
In 2021, the state passed a law to allow most adults 21 and older to carry handguns without a permit that requires first clearing a state-level background check and training.
Smith & Wesson manufactures AR-15 style rifle weapons, the weapon of choice in many of America's deadliest mass shootings.
A 2022 House Oversight Committee investigation determined that five major American gunmakers: Daniel Defense, Bushmaster, Sig Sauer, Smith & Wesson Brands, Inc., and Sturm, Ruger & Co., took in a combined total of $1 billion in revenue over 10 years from the sale of AR-15s.
Smith & Wesson saw sales jump over the same period from $108 million to $253 million.

Hope y’all enjoy them in Tennessee. I enjoy all of mine. Mama’s got her own.
Gee, no bias, there.
...and screw Massachusetts and all its useful idiot democrat voters.
AR-15 style rifle? That takes in a lot of territory. Mini-14 to Uzi. I’ll wager these type of idiots wouldn’t know a Thompson machine gun from a AK47 or pump mosseburg shotgun.
Stupid is really nice when you can put out 💩 and never get called on it. Eff them.
Exactly.

Harry Callahan – “Every day for the past ten years, Loretta there’s been giving me a large black coffee. Today she gives me a large black coffee, only it has sugar in it, a lotta sugar. I just came back to complain. Now, you boys put those guns down.”
Crook – “Say what?”
Harry Callahan – “Well, we’re not just gonna let you walk out of here.”
Crook – “Who’se we sucka?”
Harry Callahan – (Drawing his .44 Magnum) “Smith and Wesson… and me.”

About time they get out of Mass of 2 sh!ts
👍😆
I have often quoted that scene in forums.
It’s best for S&W, no doubt, to move out of Mass. However, it’s a good thing generally for Blue States to have some significant defense manufacturing and firearm manufacturers within their employment bases. It helps keep the voters and officials in those states less far left crazy.
less far left crazy
Doesn’t seem to have done much good in MA...its why S&W left.
My brother went to this grand opening yesterday, haven’t heard any feedback yet. We’re about 20 miles from the factory.
Good for them....good for everyone.
Massachusetts has plenty of defense contractors. Plenty.
Robotics defense that can disarm citizens.
Tennessee will remain gun friendly until all the Nashville lefties flip the state blue.
Great move! Now all they have to do is get rid of that damned Hillary Hole lock!
Great movie!
My brother and his wife went yesterday. He said they were super tired when they left, so there must’ve been a lot to see and do.
