It has been reported that the family had watched YouTube tutorials to prepare for living in the wildnerness.
Earlier this month, a solo hiker near the Gold Creek Campground made the grim discovery of the bodies of Rebecca Vance, 42; her 14-year-old son; and her sister, Christine Vance, 41, all residents of Colorado Springs.
The mummified remains of a family who attempted to live off-grid were discovered in July in Colorado's Gunnison National Forest. According to NBC News, the family reportedly relied only on YouTube videos.
It's a sad lesson in the dangers of unprepared wilderness living.
The pandemic inspired off-grid living
According to her stepsister Trevala Jara, Rebecca Vance got worried about the state of the world during the COVID-19 pandemic. So she decided to take her son and live in nature.

“””These fools weren’t living off the grid; they were three utterly clueless people who naively thought that “nature will provide.” They went into the wilderness wholly unprepared.”””
True, they weren’t really doing anything outside of their imaginations, they simply grabbed some food and a tent, went outdoors and starved while waiting for the survival TV-type stuff to happen.
They should of called DoorDash
These people were not that bright. Too bad about the kids.
My family still uses American Indian. For those who object to the name “Indian” don’t sweat it. India is changing their name and so once more we will be the ones left standing.
If you gotta go, might as well enjoy what little time left eating well and drinking great wine.
Gotta be a YouTube video for all that, right? Right? Easy-peasy...
Just kidding. You wouldn’t find me doing that without first taking some real hands-on training...maybe trying it in a more accommodating environment.
Bkmk
But, the wisdom of the youtube influencers was their guide?!?!
Should have followed the Brown family on the show: Alaskan Bush People!
They’ve done it for years!😁
Where on earth did get that info……about Lesbians being violent towards male children ?
…
the browns in Alaska? nope, they went a different route, the discovery channels “alone”.
Probably one of the first things they learned was to move out of the mountains and down onto the plains in autumn.
I was doing a job on an Indian reservation and my client was there. We met a local guy that was in charge of the site. I asked the local guy if he was with the Indian tribe (stupid question I guess - of course he was).
But my client said to me in front of the guy “It’s “Native American” tribe. I looked at the local guy and said (knowing the answer) “what do you call yourself?”
“Indian”.
He later told me that the various names for all of the tribes was a white man invention. The Indian’s “tribe” was “human”. Just like the bears were a tribe, the eagles another tribe, etc.
I asked him “Well - what about the other Indians that weren’t part of your group?”
“Well of course they were in another group - you don’t steal and kill and take slaves from your own group. But they weren’t a different tribe.”
I don’t exactly recall now it has been so long ago, but I’m thinking that he said they didn’t have a formal name for the other “tribes” - just knew that they were different.
Gunnison is often to the coldest place in Colorado. We lived just east of there. The cold air from Gunnison would hug the ground and flows across our place. It was a sight to see a white cloud formation just a few hundred feet thick flow quickly across the ground.
😍
Nature is nature…it doesn’t try, it’s just nature…it is what it is. No feelings or motive at all.
Modern people have no idea how to survive.
They were sisters I thought.
“First Americans” is something I will buy, for it’s a fact.
Another accurate term is indigenous people.
I never liked “Native American” as anyone born in the US is a native American. It’s a commie political correct thing that got going a few years ago. I drove through a nearby rez often, and many signs refer to the term “Indian”.
