Those suffering from chronic neck pain can alleviate the symptoms on the way to full recovery if they adopt optimal posture and spinal alignment, according to a study.
The study evaluated two widely-used corrective approaches to remedy chronic non-specific neck pain caused by forward head posture (FHP) and CBP rehabilitation and traditional exercise programs.
"The CBP technique is a posture-correcting method that depends on stretching the viscous and plastic elements of the longitudinal ligament and intervertebral disks, in addition to effectively stretching the soft tissue through the entire neck area in the direction of normal head and neck postures," the researchers write.
The study involved 66 elderly participants with an FHP. They were randomly assigned to either the chiropractic biophysics (CBP) group or the Standard Group. Both groups underwent 18 treatment sessions over a 6-week period, with a follow-up assessment conducted three months after the completion of treatment.
The scientists found the Chiropractic Biophysics (CBP), a spine and posture correcting method that incorporates a mathematical approach, most effective.
The study's primary outcome is the craniovertebral angle (CVA), which measures the alignment of the head and neck. Secondary outcomes include pain intensity, Berg balance score (BBS), head repositioning accuracy (HRA), and cervical range of motion (CROM).
Ibrahim M. Moustafa says that following 18 sessions, the CBP group showed significant improvement in the CVA, indicating a successful correction of FHP. In contrast, he adds, the exercise group did not experience a notable change in CVA, despite both groups showing improved functional measurements and pain intensity.
The study's most promising finding came during the three-month post-treatment follow-up. At this stage, without any further interventions, the CBP group maintained their improved conditions in all areas, including CVA, pain intensity, BBS, HRA, and CROM. In contrast, the exercise experienced regression, with their initial improvements reversing.

After trying every brand of pillow on the market, I tried My Pillow. Neck pain gone for ever. I am a side sleeper, and this is the only pillow with which I do not wake with neck pain. On top of that I have longer hours of uninterrupted sleep.
Maybe that’s what I need. I have neck pain, but the Docs see nothing wrong in that area. Is there a specifically contoured My Pillow product you purchased that is working for you, or any pillow by that manufacturer should do?
This is a great post. Thank you.
I frequently skim.and often save your posts but forget to thank you for them.
Then I retired and moved to Ohio. That ended my regular lunches at the Chinese restaurant in town. VOILA!! No more neck pain. Turns out I'd become hypersensitive to MSG.
Now I avoid all foods with MSG in them, and I'm fine. But one can of Progresso Italian Wedding Soup will tie me up again. No MSG added, but chicken stock is naturally loaded with it. You'd never guess it, but yogurt and cottage cheese ditto.
Nothing to do with neck pain, but you will have to tear my My Pillows from my cold, dead hands.
My Pillow has been good for me too. I also like how it doesn’t seem to retain heat so it doesn’t feel warm during the night. I still have a little neck pain but a lot better than when I sleep at a hotel with regular pillow. I’ve tried their travel pillow which is okay for camping but a little too small. Of course that is why it is a travel pillow😄.
Get the queen size original version. I also have the new cooler version. Both work fine for me.
The trick in using my pillow is you should give it a quick squeeze from ends on the longer side, before going to bed every night. Only takes just a couple of seconds. That fluffs it up immediately and you are ready to place your head on it.
Thanks.
That’s interesting.
I’ve had 2 fusions on my neck, the las was 24 years ago. I’ve stayed pretty good through exercise, but now I’m scheduled for another fusion November 8.
This time the problem is C2-4, causing dizziness and vision problems, scary.
Was just about to ping you, to this thread. :-)
Me too! I could never sleep on my stomach...someone else’s was never a problem!
Oh yes, it works...
“My pillow” makes a world of difference in neck and shoulder pain as well as numbness in arm as hands associated with improper neck posture during sleep. Personal experience.
I was on a cruise last February on Norwegian Escape ship for a lovely cruise. Everything was great except the pillows! I had stiff neck every morning.
Thinking of our recent exchange; thought this post might be of interest. Be blessed!
Thanks, I read it earlier!.............
👍🏻
YES! I have spent a lot of money on pillows, finally tried My Pillow and I sleep like a baby. Thanks, Mike Lindell!
