Amen.
I didn’t to imply an earning of salvation by being holy. If you have been saved by Christ, you want to be holy and make a lifetime study towards that.

“You receive life eternal by accepting His gift, not through the consequences of your behavior....”

Which relieves you of self accountability and self responsibility.

That's an excellent point.

The reason that isn't the case is that The Gift (forgiveness of your past sins) is admittance to a world that is free of sin. And that new world (the World of Righteousness) motivates (and will eventually require) one to be completely self-accountable and self-responsible about his or her behavior.

Analogies are hard to come by to illustrate what this is like, but imagine you were invited to join your college swim team or track team. You're going to do your very best even if you think your best is never going to be good enough to make you a star.

But, though you aren't good enough initially, you've got a coach (Jesus) who is going to work with you and keep working with you until your "best" gets better and better. As you get better, you begin to realize that with THIS coach (and a huge amount of hard work on your part), you might become a star.

I understand your point but the concept is an out... A get out of jail free card. It’s simple, you don’t need forgiveness if you don’t do the crime in the first place. “knowing” you will be forgiven opens doors that true self responsibility would never open in the first place.

But it is off topic and religion should not have been brought up in this thread in the first place. My fault for responding to it and perpetuating the off topic discussion, I should not have, I should have just ignored it.

Where do you go to become an expert on UFO's?

In Nick Pope's case, he was head of the UK Ministry of Defense's UFO program back in the 1990s.

As I said upthread, that doesn't mean what he says can be trusted. Some people think he still is a UK government operative.

Since religion is about ideas, rather than experience, there is no reason why there would be one.

Of course he’s an operative.

You don't know that. He may be completely insignificant to the MOD at this point and just babbling away to earn a wee living.

No. The reason why Christianity and Judaism is different from all other religions is because of the teaching of abiding by consequences, otherwise known as holiness.
I don’t know enough about other religions to affirm or deny anything about them beyond saying that your hypothesis sounds interesting and that your definition of holiness is interesting and idiosyncratic, at least from a Catholic perspective. .

Jonty30 would have to explain what he means, for the idea of "holiness" being a goal is certainly not restricted to Christianity and Judaism (thus there is the title " His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama") but what this means is where differences would be.

I am not much acquainted with scope of beliefs on this among various faiths, however in Scripture holiness is not simply that of avoiding moral defilement, but that of being faced with the temptations of pleasure, position and prestige and overcoming such, and all that would be a denial of penitent, heart-purifying, regenerating effectual faith in crucified and risen Lord Jesus. (Acts 10:43-47; 15:7-9)

Which faith is imputed for righteousness, (Romans 4:5) and is shown in baptism and following the Lord of all. (Acts 2:38-47; Jn. 10:27,28) And those who die in that obedient faith will go to be forever with Him at death or His return (Phil 1:23; 2Cor. 5:8 [“we”]; Heb, 12:22,23; 1Cor. 15:51ff'; 1Thess. 4:17) In contrast to those who were never born of the Spirit or who terminally fall away. (Gal. 5:1-4; Heb. 3:12; 10:25-39)

“You’re still required to repent of your wrongdoings.”

So if you did nothing wrong you have to go do something wrong so that you have a just reason to plead guilty and be forgiven for it? Because it would be a lie and dishonest to beg for forgiveness for a sin you never committed in the first place right? Commit a sin to be forgiven for sin? Would this not be hypocrisy?

I thought the Prime Directive prohibits alien personnel and spacecraft from interfering in the normal development of any society, and mandates that any alien vessel or crew member is expendable to prevent violation of this rule.

I define holiness as an awareness of consequences and abiding by them to live a good life, while improving society.

The more holy a person is, the more the smaller consequences matter. For example, you might choose to not participate in premarital sex because her father will kill you if he finds out. That’s not the best reason to avoid pre-marital sex, but it does show an awareness and a willingness to abide by the consequences of your actions.

You might choose to not participate in pre-marital sex because of the possibility of an STD transmission. That’s a better reason than her father finding out and it’s still not the deepest reason. However, such a person could be said to be more holy than the first guy, even if he still isn’t holy.

You might choose to participate in pre-marital sex because of the risk of a baby being conceived. That’s a better reason than then first two and it shows a deeper awareness of your consequences than the other two, even if it is still metaphysically not the best reason. Such a person can be said to be more holy than the previous people, even if he isn’t holy by definition.

You might choose to not participate in a pre-marital sex because you don’t want to hurt her. That’s a better reason than then previous people and it shows a deeper awareness of your consequences than the others, even if it is still metaphysically not the best reason. Such a person can be said to be more holy than the previous people, even if he isn’t holy by definition.

You might choose to not participate in pre-marital sex because you want to leave her in a state that she can present herself as her best to whomever becomes her husband. That’s a better reason than then previous people and it shows a deeper awareness of your consequences than the others, even if it is still metaphysically not the best reason. Such a person can be said to be more holy than the previous people, even if he isn’t holy by definition.

In my understanding, the more holy a person is, the less he wants to harm and the more he wants to benefit another person. He would consider the smallest consequences of harm in his choices of life. Even if we can quibble about my examples.

I had this discussion with my brother who said he's not a sinner. His wife, listening in to the conversation, said, "Not a sinner? Like when you lied to me about when you got drunk at the office party and made out with your co-worker (a female)."

When anyone thinks they are sinless, you have to wonder if they are being "self-accountable."

One of the most common government ploys is to send out “whistleblowers” to get a message out that they want gotten out unofficially, but with some sort of official “authority”.

This has all the hallmarks of that.

Codswollop. This silly man's "theory" is a theory, not a fact.

And it is presented for the press and public consumption. What the "theory" is comes down to 1) an attack on belief systems and individuals who hold beliefs and 2) an attempt to substitute one "theory" for another, one "belief system" for another.

Bunkum. But "evangelical" bunkum.
