JOINT BASE ELMENDORF-RICHARDSON, Alaska — Two bears on an Alaska military base raided a Krispy Kreme doughnut van that was stopped outside a convenience store during its delivery route.
The driver usually left his doors open when he stopped at the store but this time a sow and one of her cubs that loiter nearby sauntered inside, where they stayed for probably 20 minutes Tuesday morning, said Shelly Deano, the store manager for Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson JMM Express.
The bears chomped on doughnut holes and other pastries, ignoring the banging on the side of the van that was aimed at shooing them away, Deano said.
"I was beating on the van and they're not moving. I could hear them breaking open the packages and everything," she said. "I was like, 'They don't even care.'"
When the bears couldn't be roused, base security was called and sounded sirens meant to scare away the bears, she said.
The bears eventually came out and wandered in front of the convenience store and gas station a bit before heading into the woods.
It's not unusual to see bears on base or around the store but nothing like this has happened before, Deano said, adding that the delivery driver now closes his doors when he stops at the shop.

“I was beating on the van and they’re not moving. I could hear them breaking open the packages and everything,” she said. “I was like, ‘They don’t even care.’”
She expected them to care?
A reasonable thing to expect from a Purple Dinosaur or maybe a dog.
I don’t think Viking Kitties care, and I doubt my cats would.
People like this should be told that the moral thing to do is to cease voting until animals are enfrachised.
you don’t have to look to know what color they were. /s
A clever executive will take advantage:
“Krispy Kreme: So bad that you’ll grin & bear it.”
Metaphorically, they DID ;-)
Looks like him from behind...
Leave a truck load of Krispy Kremes with the door open in Alaska. Then be amazed when bears think they are in heaven! There will be bears hanging on that exact spot for 40 years..... waiting for another miracle truck.
What a research project: Ursine Cargo Cult
The Krispy Kreme marketing department should run with this.
Texas Lone Star Beer did a whole series of funny commercials about their trucks being torn apart by giant armadillos.
Then there is the great John West Salmon “Bear Fight” commercial.

There was a report of couple of bears on the local news who broke into 2 houses and raided the kitchens. They left a big mess.
You watched Cocaine Bear. Get ready for Sugar Bears!
I spend some time on Akaska’s Kodiak Island when I was in the Coast Guard, and it was one of those welcome aboard tips that if you drove a pickup truck, you shouldn’t leave your groceries in an open truck bed because the ravens and the bald eagles would pick your groceries apart if left unattended. The ravens were only slightly smaller than the bald eagles.
Well, they had fun! Lol!
A bear cargo cult... lol.
They know they won't be charged or else the DA will simply drop all charges.
In PA, the Game Commission almost always uses day old donuts as bait go traps used to move problem bears out of populated areas. Bears really like donuts.
“Bears really like donuts.”
Beau is a big Black Bear hunter. When they can score donuts for their bait stumps, it is reason to celebrate. Donuts and used fryer grease is a winning combination. ;)
AND they will be back for sure!
I guess the bears needed a break from writing all those tickets .
CW McCall described it well:
“And them bears was wall-to-wall
Yeah, them smokies is thick as bugs on a bumper
They even had a bear in the air
I says, “Callin’ all trucks, this here’s the Duck”
“We about to go a-huntin’ bear””
