This is an ongoing thread – meaning come back to chat, post information, or ask questions any time. Hopefully the thread won’t stagnate and I’ll do better at posting weekly (or bi-weekly) topics than I have in the past. (anyone willing to post a topic now and then we'll be highly praised and appreciated).
We are in for some bumpy rides, and prepping can only help. If for peace of mind, if nothing else. We have a wonderful gardening thread and a current-events survival/prepping thread, and hopefully this one can piggyback off of those, maybe having a longer discussion about certain topics or … whatever. It's your thread, do what you like with it! (civilly, of course)
Here are granny’s threads, if anyone wants to peruse them:

Just finished canning my Pink Tip Greasy beans. Then I did four batches of potatoes pressure canned without water. Now I’m waiting for the dried beans I ordered to get them processed. Then it’ll be time to bring the firewood to the house. Fall is in the air!
That sounds idyllic . . .
“:I’m using the old ping list so if anybody wants off it just let me know.”
If you would put me on the ping list that is ok.
For a few days now I have been looking at the “Bug out Bag” stuff online. Some are ok some are stupid what to put in that bag are interesting it is a personal choice.
Great thread idea, CB!
Glad to see it. I am visiting with son and granddaughter at the moment (just took a quick trip in to use the facilities lol) but will check back later.
Thanks for starting this - we’ve been doing a mess of prepping up here, north of the border!
My family have bug-out bags, but I don’t know what’s in them (it’s my daughter, SIL and grands). They didn’t make one for me lol so I’m thinking I’m not bugging out any time soon.
Fall is in the air for sure!
I spent that last few days under a mountain of green beans and tomatoes. Potatoes being pulled soon, but we just leave those covered with dirt and stored in the walk in refrigerator in an out building.
Five little piggies that aren’t so little are going to butcher soon, so freezers full again.
Please add me to ping list
Thanks
Oh, I miss my own pork. Haven’t raised a hog in years, since the milk cow was sold. Milk makes amazing meat. Didn’t have a large freezer then so I canned a bunch of the meat. Lasted for years in the jar.
I think that for almost everyone, the home BOB is about going to a shelter or a friend’s home, so it should have all the things based on that, the one in the car should be based on living in the car for X days and/or hiking out under worse winter or summer conditions and for the longest distance to your home or occupied houses.
A lot of guys seem to base their BOB on moving to the woods and living off the land which makes zero sense.
I don’t plan on bugging out, but I like your idea to have supplies in your car or work so you could walk home.

A lot of people keep gear at their work/office so that they can shelter in place if needed, or hike home if they have to.
Rule #1 for Preppers:
Decide who you trust with your life.
Never let anyone else know about your preps.
You will want to look poor to any outsider.
That means no noisy generators, no fancy vehicles, etc.
This great scene from Goodfellas explains the issue:

Canned 15 pints of fresh peaches from a friends mini farm this week. Had enough left over for a lovely pie.
Around here opening a jar of summer peaches in the depths of winter is one of life’s little joys.

Thanks for the ping, CB.
Glad you have started these threads back.
Time is of the essence.
You’re going to have to back up a minute and educate me.
How do you can potatoes without water?
What are Pink Tip Greasy beans? a green bean?
Always good advice. You do not want to be conspicuous in a TEOTWAWKI situation. You don’t want to be the guy running a generator with the lights on. You will attract looters and other riff-raff like moths to a porch light.
LOL...whatsa mattah wit you?? Great scene!!
