This is an ongoing thread – meaning come back to chat, post information, or ask questions any time. Hopefully the thread won’t stagnate and I’ll do better at posting weekly (or bi-weekly) topics than I have in the past. (anyone willing to post a topic now and then we'll be highly praised and appreciated).
We are in for some bumpy rides, and prepping can only help. If for peace of mind, if nothing else. We have a wonderful gardening thread and a current-events survival/prepping thread, and hopefully this one can piggyback off of those, maybe having a longer discussion about certain topics or … whatever. It's your thread, do what you like with it! (civilly, of course)
Here are granny’s threads, if anyone wants to peruse them:

” I have spent the day coloring in pictures I drew of the outside of my daughters house. Only way to get an idea of what some different colors would look like. I drew it once then copied it.”
I didn’t know you were an artist! That’s a pretty neat skill to have.
What colors did you decide you like best?
Oh yes I remember you! Maybe we can do this as a collaboration and then neither of us gets to bail because the other one is counting on us?
I’m really glad to hear that, thanks for your explanation.
I get overwhelmed trying to prepare for the unknown as it is. Make it a little more complicated and I really get confused. Especially in trying to figure out what I should have on hand.
That’s pretty neat that you can the dog food you make also.
I just wanted to add, for those of you with cats, they have more specific nutritional requirements than dogs. There’s a couple of additives they need that they likely wouldn’t get from typical human food. Like taurine. From what I’ve read that originally comes from mouse hearts. But it’s pretty cheap to buy. Without it they won’t last very long.
When we get to pet food as a topic, I’ll post the cat food recipe I found on the internet and then I’ll post the one that I actually used that my cat would eat. As you know, cats can be picky. And I had to modify it because cotton couldn’t have grains or a few other items that were in the recipe. She lived the 17 and a half, she just passed away. And I had been making her food for probably 12 of those years. And she was always healthy, the vets were always pretty impressed with her blood test even at an older age.
“Not only can the intense heat ruin some items in short order it can also reduce the usable life of other items.”
That’s something I haven’t even considered. And I’m sure a lot of items are probably useless right now.
This is such an awesome thread and group, you guys know so much!
I do remember you posted your library before. Now it’s all coming back to me, although my memory is shot. I did look through some of the directories but now I went through a lot more of them. I don’t know why I missed it last time, sorry.
“They do “harvest” the legs”
Just the legs? We’re not talking about frogs are we?
Anyway I’m glad part of the animal gets used. I hate to see them die for nothing if they are not a predator.
I figure it’s okay to post news here. I think we talked about recent events on Granny’s thread, along with lots of other things. I just saw this in the sidebar

New Reuters Poll Has Trump Winning 2024 Rematch Against Biden In Electoral Landslide - 312 To 226
On Friday, Reuters and Ipsos released a 2024 presidential election poll between the leading 2024 presidential candidate and 45th President Donald Trump and President Joe Biden and, according to the poll, Trump will win the election in an electoral landslide.
The Reuters/Ipsos poll was conducted from September 8 to 14 and surveyed 4,413 U.S. adults.
The poll spelled doom for Biden as it showed Trump leading him in all of the seven most crucial states that determined the 2020 presidential election - Arizona, Georgia, Wisconsin, Nevada, North Carolina, Michigan, and Pennsylvania.
In all seven states, Trump crushed Biden by six points, with 41 percent to Biden’s 35 percent, and a remaining undecided 24 percent.
If all the other states remain the same in the 2024 presidential election, Trump would receive 312 electoral votes, 42 more electoral votes than the 270 he needs to win. Biden would receive 226 electoral votes.
Cottonball: of course everything changes once you add in fraud
I used to do LOTS of oil paintings until my carpel tunnel got so bad I couldn’t hold a brush anymore. If I can ever figure out how to post one of them from my cell phone to the thread I will do that. So far I haven’t figured it out. The pictures I have posted before came from my camera which I then put in my pictures folder on my computer.
It isn’t a matter of which colors I have picked for the house it will be up to my daughter since it is her house.
P.S. Did you ever see that recipe I posted to you on using dehydrated potatoes to make potato salad?
“I’m cheap enough that I go and pick what I want at each store.”
I hope those stores are right next door to each other. The way I look at it, is you probably spend more on gas to go to ALL those stores then the savings you get on groceries.
Besides I am lazy and HATE shopping. :-)
“Did you ever see that recipe I posted to you on using dehydrated potatoes to make potato salad?”
Thanks for reminding me! I saw the post and I meant to go back and look at the link. I wish my memory wasn’t getting worse and worse. But I typically do is open links and leave a window open so I could go back and see it. But I had to reboot my tablet and everything was lost.
” I hope those stores are right next door to each other”
They were all on the way, since I had to go to the dentist in Johnson city. Sam’s Club was only a few miles away and then the others were on my way back home anyway. And the Mini Cooper gets great mileage.
But I was thinking about you at Sam’s club, I was looking around thinking I only wanted to buy salad stuff that I could put together for this week. Hubby is on travel and so I won’t be cooking. I I finally realized that if I lived alone I probably wouldn’t cook at all either, not unless I had people over
Let me know how you like it. I do like creamy potato salad but I like a chunk of potato now and then also.
“If I can ever figure out how to post one of them from my cell phone to the thread I will do that. So far I haven’t figured it out. The pictures I have posted before came from my camera which I then put in my pictures folder on my computer.”
You can send me one, either via text or email, and I will post it. Or more than one. I’ll send my email and phone number in a freepmail.
That is so neat! My grandfather was an art professor in italy. He went to school in venezia. I have no artistic ability whatsoever. So watching him do a painting from the beginning to end was like magic. He started with a pencil drawing and obviously he knew what he was doing but I couldn’t figure it out until later. So neat. One is one of the best things of is I have his paintings all over this house. I’ll post some pictures of those. Every time we would visit and he would offer paintings I would take anything he would give me. I’m so glad I did. He was never very successful as an artist. So I figure I am putting his legacy on my walls. The sad thing is my sisters and mother had his paintings also, but they all passed away and they’re husbands have them and probably have no emotional attachment to them. And who knows who’s going to get them after, if they still even have them
“I figure it’s okay to post news here.”
Glad to hear that.
For those who may have been concerned about the death toll in Lahania there is some GOOD NEWS.
“The number of people who died in the massive wildfires that torched parts of Maui last month has been revised to 97, down from the previous count of 115, Hawaii governor said Friday.”
There is some really good information in the article on how they were able to bring the death toll down.
Here is a VIDEO on that subject.

IF I ever get myself in gear I will give that recipe for potato salad a try, then I will let you know. I am thinking of using the Idahoan Baby Reds which has a few skins in it, so some chunky stuff.
Have the children been accounted for?
