Human skull found in Goodwill donation box

Man, isn't the news just great sometimes? Like this story about a human skull that was dropped off at a Goodwill in Goodyear, Arizona.

Seriously, that's so strange.

Why would someone drop off a human skull in a Goodwill donation box?

That's such a boneheaded move!

The skull was placed in the donation box at a Goodwill in Goodyear, Arizona, a southwestern suburb of Phoenix, by an unknown donor.

It was discovered by Goodwill staff on Tuesday, who reported it to the police, per company protocol, and continue to cooperate with the police investigation, according to a spokesperson for Goodwill of Central and Northern Arizona.

Police responded to reports of the skull discovery and took possession of what was believed to be "an actual human skull" at the Goodyear Goodwill.

A photo provided by police shows the skull was covered with dark black spots, with the upper front teeth still attached and a false eye set on the left eye socket.

Here's what that skull looked like when it arrived at the donation center: \

Just in time for Halloween, figured somebody might want this, we're done using it.

Meanwhile, Great Aunt Lisa's six feet under and missing her head. Just kidding, there is no Great Aunt Lisa in the story, thought that would be cool.

As for whether or not this skull was part of a crime, it doesn't seem so. Maricopa County Medical Examiner filed it under the "historic" section. So I guess it's not, like, a murder or anything, so that's good.

Either way, strange story. You really never know what you're going to come across in one of those Goodwill donation bins.

Its a perfectly good skull, maybe someone else can use it.

Reduce, reuse, recycle.

Second Nazi: I mean, what do skulls make you think of? Death... cannibals... beheading... pirates...

Hans: Pirates are fun!

Second Nazi: I didn't say we weren't fun, but fun or not pirates are still the baddies.

So, an old gezzer dies. Looking though his stuff, relatives finds the skull. They do not want the police involved, so they drop it off in the Goodwill box.

Up until 2016 eBay allowed the sale of human skulls. A group in California called Tibetan Magic was importing them from China. During massive road-building projects, China bulldozed a lot of cemeteries, villagers would gather the skulls and sell them to people who exported them to the US and other countries. I remember reading about a guy who had bought 5 of these skulls and had them in his apartment. A neighbor saw them and reported him to the police as a possible serial killer. Fortunately, the guy had kept copies of each of the listings for the skulls he bought. Most of the skulls sold by Tibetan Magic went for $100-$250.
