A new study has been published showing that almost one in three men over the age of 15 are infected with at least one genital human papillomavirus (HPV) type, and one in five are infected with one or more of what are known as high risk, or oncogenic, HPV types.
These estimates show that men frequently harbor genital HPV infections and emphasize the importance of incorporating men in efforts to control HPV infection.
The systematic review and meta-analysis assessed the prevalence of genital HPV infection in the general male population based on studies published between 1995 and 2022. The global pooled prevalence was 31% for any HPV and 21% for high-risk HPV. HPV-16 was the most prevalent HPV genotype (5%) followed by HPV-6 (4%).
HPV prevalence was high in young adults, reaching a maximum between the ages of 25 years and 29 years, and stabilized or slightly decreased thereafter. Pooled prevalence estimates were similar for the geographical regions of Europe and Northern America, Sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, and Australia and New Zealand (Oceania). The estimates for Eastern and South-Eastern Asia were half that of the other regions.
The majority of HPV infections in men and women are asymptomatic, but they can lead to long-term sequelae and mortality. Each year, more than 340,000 women die of cervical cancer.
In men, HPV infection tends to manifest clinically as anogenital warts, which cause significant morbidity and increase HPV transmission rates. HPV infections are also associated with penile, anal and oropharyngeal cancers, which are commonly linked to HPV type 16.
"This global study on the prevalence of genital HPV infection among men confirms how widespread HPV infection is. HPV infection with high-risk HPV types can cause genital warts and oral, penile and anal cancer in men," said Dr. Meg Doherty.

Swipe left or right a few times and guarantee yourself your own venereal disease! Men complaining about dating women who “don’t put out” apparently don’t care much about VD. They just want their fun.
Just remember, 31% have HPV, while plenty of other VDs (herpes, HIV, etc.) are also asking for “special time” with you.
What a fallen world we live in.

All I know is apparently I had this when I was a young man and never knew it until now. Last year I was diagnosed with throat cancer and HPV was the cause. In fact, it is the number one cause of throat cancer among men in the USA.

my understanding is that there is about a twenty year delay from hvp exposure until throat cancers emerge in men. Is this correct?

How was this ascertained when there is no test for HPV in men?

This is a bad cancer to get.
I am sorry you are dealing with it. I know it was not what you, nor the other person, bargained for.

For me, I believe it was at least 30 years or more.

Between the chemo and radiation, it was 6 months of total hell. But the good news is that the HPV cancer has a much better cure rate then the non HPV type.

I wish you complete recovery. Cancer treatments have advanced a lot. My wife was diagnosed with stage-4 in early 2018. Life expectancy was 6 months to 5 years after diagnosis. With excellent treatment she is still here and holding her own.

‘Men complaining about dating women who “don’t put out”...’
I don’t think I’ve heard such a complaint in recent memory. Just the opposite in fact.
To: Olog-hai
Correction, there is no FDA screening test for men. But any tissue sample from a tumor or lesion can be tested for hpv in a qualified lab.

So that translates to 33 percent of men coming down with an HPV-related illness?

No, most people with healthy immune systems get rid of it on their own. But some people with poor immune systems e d up with a chronic version which can eventually cause cancer.

There’s only one way to get infected with HPV, and that’s sexually. 33 percent even at the current rate of promiscuity is absurdly high.

Also, deriving a number like 33 percent from only detected infections is highly specious.
