I dabbled in hydroponics when I was a teenager, but decided the chemicals needed weren’t the way I wanted to go.
After my house and greenhouse are built, I’m planning to try my hand at aquaponics. It’s similar to hydroponics, except that instead of synthetic fertilizers, you use the water from fish tanks. And instead of normal filters for the fish tanks, you send the water through your grow beds. If done right, both the fish and the vegetables flourish.

I have a spring fed pond full of fish. Maybe I should try it.
But that’s in the North on my farm and I’m looking at doing this in North Carolina, my winter home.
I now have a large greenhouse, but need new plastic. I need an outside winter hobby. Since my wife retired, my retirement ended! It’s my escape.
Hubby and I have been married 45 years. He bought me a dehydrator our first Christmas. Still works great. I mostly use is for the San Marzano tomatoes. Cut in half, spoon out the guts, toss with olive oil, add salt pepper, garlic powder, basil, oregano. Put in dehydrator, flip halfway through. Then I just keep in a ziploc in the fridge .
Been quite busy, and have no pics ready, yet many toms has been picked, 1 delayed due to the wetting summer with the least sun (I think) in recorded history.

Pete! I made that recipe today, creamed shishito peppers. Followed it exactly. I had everything, only had to buy a couple of a shallots. I even grated the nutmeg. It is just outstanding. I would not tweak it a bit. Will definitely make it again and freeze some small containers. So yummy. I just had some thin sourdough bread that I toasted and spread some on. Love it. Thank you. I can see it would be good on so many things, especially on a small steak if I had one. Thanks again, reposting the link.
Now there is something else I can do with them, still picking about 20 a day.

I am Gratified that you found it useful and that it helps you with your surplus Shishito peppers! I used some for that recipe and need to pick some more. They are a great little pepper, they grow fast and grill well.
My daughter came by and loaded up with basil, shishitos, and tomatos. I had a few bulblets of Red walking onion that I had bought and sent that home with her to plant.

I sent a bag full of Giant Marconi peppers to my niece Saturday. They were the largest & straightest ones on the bush, 10-12 of them. She cut them in half, took the seeds out & grilled them along with bratwurst. The pepper halves made fantastic ‘low carb’ buns for the brats. She sent me a picture that just about had me drooling & now I am going to have to give this a try. I have some peppers that are big enough, though not as huge as the ones I gave her & they have various degrees of ‘curve’ to them, but once grilled & softer, I think some of the less curvy ones will work.
It was actually 3 tornadoes according to the analysis. 4th day no power.
We have the white walking onions. When they get huge and fat we toss them with oil and put them on the grill.
It was another week of normal August misery here in Central Missouri. Hot and humid. Rained Saturday morning.
I’ve given away a full bushel of pole beans over the last few days. I’m half tempted to pull em out by the roots so I don’t have to keep picking every other day. Same goes for the okra. I think I’ll be better off if I get most of the garden cleaned up before we run off to Sunny Florida next month. On the one hand it’s a shame to tear down things that are working, but the other hand is dealing with an overgrown, tangled mess when we get back home.
I didn’t do much of anything in the garden over the weekend. After the rain stopped on Saturday I got the pressure washer out and cleaned the roof on the toy hauler trailer. Yesterday I replaced the lids on both roof vents and put three coats of rubberized paint on the roof. I also gave the roof of the pump house a good heavy coating. Potting shed needs it too but I’ll wait until I tear the busted roof off of the greenhouse to do that one.
Excellent! I have several multiplier onions, yellow potato onions, Japanese green onions, and not the red walking onions. (The potato onions are small, but they store well for as long as 1 year. The Japanese onions could probably be grown like leeks or scallions. About to find out how these walking onions do! (Father had some so I know what to expect.)
Trying to sleep at night when its in the 90s is really difficult.
If they don't have fungal infections or are molding out probably easier to pull now and compost.
