Pop astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson thinks it’s 'weird' to separate male and female athletes: The Progressives' favorite man of science is baffled by real-world realities

So, after all of recorded history, it has come to this: an (alleged) astrophysicist claims it is odd that we separate male and female athletes.

In a recent (2022) discussion with science writer and podcaster Michael Shermer, Neil deGrasse Tyson said: “It is a little weird that we split people by male and female in this way. I’m imagining a hundred years from now looking back and saying, ‘Do you know back 100 years ago they split boys and girls and they couldn’t compete?’ And … that’d just be kind of a little weird.”

Really? At the rate we’re going, in 30 years people may not be able to distinguish males from females.

But do we really want to have women competing, say, on NFL, NHL, and NBA teams? The injuries would be horrific. And the majority of both would be extremely uncomfortable in the locker rooms. Moreover, the few who wouldn’t be uncomfortable would likely be an even bigger problem.

To his credit, Shermer didn’t agree with Tyson’s take. Which didn’t set well with Tyson, who likened Shermer to an “old man on the porch in a rocking chair” for his backward thinking.

Other clips of progressives’ favorite scientist have surfaced recently, including one in which Tyson called the human brain’s need to make categories, even of things that he says are “not inherently categorizable,” a “failure of evolution.” He added, “Suppose no matter my chromosomes, today I feel 80 percent female, 20 percent male. I’m gonna put on makeup. Tomorrow, I might feel 80 percent male. I’ll remove the makeup and I’ll wear a muscle shirt. Why do you care?! What businesses is it of yours to require that I fulfill your inability to think of gender on a spectrum?”

He’s got a point. It would make more sense to divide sports by hair color.

Neil deGrasse Tyson is not a scientist. He is an affirmative action political hire.

His career has always been that of a “science explainer” rather then that of a scientist. He’s basically a Bill Nye with a PhD instead of a master’s degree. Tyson worked with some good people on his way to a PhD but it’s interesting that he seems to have never been offered the traditional and more demanding astrophysicist career route - faculty position with obligations to do research for tenure. Carl Sagan at least went the normal academic career route before becoming a tendentiously pretentious TV science explainer.

This dumb bastard would put girls on the football team and in the boxing ring.

I think his position would be that we just need to accept that XY women, on average over large groups, have natural advantages over XX women, that "women's athletics" embraces both XX and XY women, and that XX women should just accept that they should not expect to compete at select levels in athletics. They can still be cheerleaders, join the band or art club in high school, stay home and bake cookies, and be content to identify with the XY women who represent their gender.

In other words, since Neil does not appear to be clinically insane, he is an utter fool who reflexively mouths the party line of the moment.

He's not "baffled" at all. It's a lie told as a loyalty test.

He is obedient to his master.

From a scientific standpoint this guy is a moron, but from a legal perspective he's right.

Under our current U.S. legal system, there is no justification for having any gender-segregated sports leagues in a public venue (i.e., taxpayer-funded high schools, universities, etc.). Legally, it's no different than having public buses or public schools segregated by race.

This is the natural/inevitable consequence of true gender equality under the law. If women insist on competing against men on equal terms in the worlds of politics, business and academia, then surely they can beat men occasionally in athletics, too.

“According to his wiki he was on a crew and wrestling teams once upon a time.”

Lib-speak. likely a substitute coxswain, and “wrestling” was a hugging club. (I don’t know, he coulda been a stud. Seems a bit swishy now.)

No, he was a rower because he’s far to big to be a cox. They are always small light weigh guys.

I doubt the varsity ream were ‘huggers’.
“... graduated from The Bronx High School of Science in 1976 where he was captain of the wrestling team ...”

“Tyson chose to attend Harvard where he majored in physics and lived in Currier House. He was a member of the crew team during his freshman year, but returned to wrestling, lettering in his senior year.”

Tyson’s public thoughts are proof that delusions aren’t limited to mentally ill people, including seriously mentally ill people such as “transsexuals”.
