Democrats failed to move the same idea when they controlled the House last year
More than two dozen House Democrats put forward legislation Friday that would slap "assault weapons" and high-capacity magazines with a 1,000% excise tax, a change that would raise the price of a $500 weapon to $5,000 in a bid to reduce access to guns across the country.
Rep. Don Beyer, D-Va., and 24 other House Democrats introduced the legislation Friday. It’s the second time Democrats have put forward the idea.
Beyer and 37 Democrats proposed the same idea last year when Democrats controlled the House, but it never moved.
The text of Beyer’s new bill was not out as of the weekend, and it was unclear if any changes were made from his 2022 version. His bill from last year imposed the tax on any magazine or related device that can accept more than 10 rounds of ammunition.

Sort of sounds like an infringement if you ask me. But, that’s what our liberal antagonists do, they infringe.
So the far-left, commuinist Lobsterbacks (Reds) want a Second Revolutionary War, huh? Okay, Americans are down for that.
seems a bit obvious
self defense for the rich only
We might even start with a lawsuit over his attack on OUR Bill of Rights. It sounds like the boy might have made too much money as a bottom feeding politician.
Democrats are THE best gun salesmen the world has ever known......hands down.
‘RATS no longer bother trying to disguise that they are power-obsessed, Stalinist thugs. They really should assume the Communist Party USA name.
That's what the National Firearms Act of 1934 is.
A $200 tax in 1934 on a silencer that usually cost $10 was designed to keep them out of the hands of ordinary citizens.
This 1,000% tax does a similar thing, and as we have seen with Obamacare, the Supreme Court doesn't like to rule against a tax.
I demand that Democrats go straight to Hell. I am sick and tired of their cheap shit.
Show your voter registration and let the Dems pay the tax.
Yep, some of the already higher-priced semi-autos would be priced up there with registered, transferrable machine guns.
I remember a story from the early 1900’s. Some NY newspaper was printing something the ruling class didn’t like. So given the first amendment, they decided to levy a huge tax on printer’s ink. The courts eventually struck it down.
well, that’s going to encourage “Ghost Guns”. The rats never think of the step two “push back”.
Interesting reveal of their arrogance to start with 1000%. I would have thought they would started smaller and then increased it over the years once passed.
Of course maybe that amount % is considered small to them and they will still increase it over time until the guns are gone.
Absolutely correct! I remember when no one wanted an AR-15! Plastic! Ugly! Not accurate! Not powerful enough for deer!
Gun writers of the 1970s hated them. And all the Democrats wanted to ban was handguns so no problems with rifles.
Then Mel Tappan wrote his book on Survival Guns and people began to notice. Then the semi-auto AK-47 began to appear in the US.
Soon people began to take a new look at them and the sales began to move up. Then when the Democrats started demanding a ban on all Semi-Auto rifles there was a flood of demand for them!
Ownership of such semi-autos went from a few thousand in the 1970s to over 25 million today!
As for high cap magazines, they have been with us since the repeating rifle was designed. One of the first lever actions that held 34 rounds was the Evans Lever action rifle made between 1873 and 1879. I have never heard of a call to ban them back then.
During the joke of an “As-s-s-ault Rifle ban in the Clinton years, which did not ban rifles but just certain things stuck on it, you could still get 40 rd magazines stamped “For Police Use Only” if you knew where to look.
I still have a couple mags marked “law enforcement only”.
Will probably outlast those plastic-looking AR-15s. A little on the heavy side, but our dads were able to haul them all over North Africa, Europe, and the Pacific.
Cartel don’t care.....
I figure they will “compromise” at only a 500% tax.
Republicans win again!
... Don Beyer, who represents a district in The Peoples Democratic Republic of Northern Virginia, is listed as the 8th most wealthy member of the House of Representatives, with a net worth of some $124.9 million.....not too shabby, what..??
