The US Women's soccer team once again hit the headlines at the World Cup as they remained silent during the playing of The Star-Spangled Banner ahead of their match against Portugal.
The defending champions were accused of disrespect ahead of their 2023 World Cup opener against Vietnam when six of 11 US players stayed silent and did not put their hands over their hearts during the anthem.

Psssst!
No one is watching the Woman’s World Cup.
No one cares.
For athletes who are preparing for an intense competition, the national anthem is usually the last thing on their mind.
Rooting that they get their asses kicked.
More female communists.
Back then and in most Olympic games, they do not line up each team and play their national anthems before each game, they only do it at the medal ceremony, so it’s an apples to oranges comparison, except that of the 30 teams at the World Cup, only ONE is acting this way.
A few examples from the Women’s World Cup of the 3 other teams we played so far in this tournament.

Go back and find a full clip of the start-to-finish ABC coverage of the “Miracle on Ice” game. I can’t post a link from this phone, but the first YouTube clip I found started with the USA and USSR teams lined up on their respective blue lines for the national anthems.
Go back and look at the 3 teams the USA played in the World Cup, the USA is the only team at the world cup acting this way.
Somehow the other teams are able to sing their anthems before the game.
Even our team sung it in 2011.

If I were them, I’d make sure to sing it, since their recent protest displays mean the folks back home are going to be watching them carefully.
They should consider appearances and sing the anthem with hands on hearts like they’ve done before. It would be the respectful, patriotic thing to do.
I have never understood why the National Anthem is played before sporting events. I have never equated my love for my country to a game.
Would be great if the Taliban kidnapped the squad so the Ho’s could see how wonderful it is to live in another country (ala Brittney Griner).
I don’t want to just see them lose, I want to see them get crippled by an opponents wonderful sliding tackle.
The same with the governing body that runs the USA National Team. They all deserve scorn for allowing this to go on.
Baseball was making a pitch to become the “national pastime.”
Playing the national anthem was a marketing move.
And since most people probably didn’t hear the national anthem that often, singing it at daily baseball games was thought to be good for the anthem and for patriotism.
It's pretty simple to me. You follow the rules, you get to stay on the team. If you don't, you're off the team.
Even Colin Kaepernick ended up getting consequences. He's no longer in the league. But he's free to do what he wants to do in his free time because he no longer represents the interests of a professional football team.
In this case you are representing your country in international competition. In other sports it was adapted in 1918 world series as a display of national pride.
Thank you.
When I served in the United States Marine Corps, when the sun was going down and the flag was being lowered and they played Taps, it was an honor to stand at attention and salute the flag.
I guess that’s gone now. I would ask these “women”, “Who do you play for?” I would hope to hell their answer would be, “I play for The United States of America.” Oh well, doesn’t impact me.
I was working on a military base (outside, near Admin buildings) last year and would stop when I heard TAPS being played over the loudspeakers off in the distance.
At previous sites years earlier at other bases they told me to do that, but not at this one. Other folks walking to their cars didn’t stop or anything, so I felt a bit odd, but...
